How accurate is the bag makeup in your signature?

I mean your set doesn't currently include a sand wedge - typically those are 54 to 56 degrees - and you're asking about a "new 60 wedge" like you already have an old one. Other than the PW that came with your set, do you have any other wedges? If not, might I suggest picking up a SW with a slightly rounded leading edge and sole with about 10 to 14 degrees bounce. Brand is up to you. Get that under control then you'll probably be able to make a 60 wedge decision on your own.

So the answer to my original question would have been, "It's missing my sand wedge".

Yeah, get a 60 degree lob wedge - you'll love it. Anything out there will work, but since you're just getting started, head over to Play it Again sports, tell someone what you're looking for. A lot of people buy lob wedges, change their mind, then give them away - there are tons of hardly used ones out there.

I'd replace your sand wedge with something you like. A 60* lob wedge is one of the last clubs a 15 year-old/30 hdcp should be putting in their bag, particularly before a 3/4/5 wood or a hybrid.

One of my favorite clubs is a Cleveland CG14 black pearl wedge. I heard the CG15 is even better.
I also bag a 64 and a 68 degree Pinemeadow wedge. They are a lot of fun.

If I was in your position I would get a new SW instead of a LW. Have a look at the Callaway x series jaws wedges, they look pretty cool and will go very nicely with your irons. Then I would probably look to get a 3h to bridge the gap between driver and 4i.

I wouldn't advise a 60* just yet.

You need to be accurate with a SW before you try a 60*
they take a lot of practice, they're worth it in the end but focus on the rest of your game first.

Does it matter if they're old?

My friend playes with a Sam Snead SW and that's from the 60's that his Grandfather used to play. Sure the grooves are a little worn but they still work.
Unless the woods are literally made of wood then they'll be fine to play with.

I know this is slightly off topic for me to ask about this on this thread, but I looked at a wedge at Academy Sports called "the final wedge," which appears to be a take on the 68* Pinemeadow.... is it really a fun club to use? I didn't pick one up because it seemed kind of gimicky and with no bouce I thought it looked hard to hit. I use my 56 exclusively for all my non-full shot chipping, including flop shots, but it is tempting to have a wedge that is consistently a flop wedge... so what's the deal with this wedge?

It might be a gimmick but it is fun. Especially when your real close to the green and you sky it and it stops dead. I am talking about when it is so close to the green that the safer bet is to use your putter.

    • Terry - what a story…I’m about 12 yrs your junior but I do have friends in similar places of life. Like others have said - “go for it”.  The fact that you’re willing to challenge yourself in the midst of dealing with something like Parkinson’s is hero level stuff….looking forward to seeing how this great adventure plays out and make sure to get some of it on video as well.  Make them memories dude!
    • Played nine today. Just went out trying to make a swing that had the feels of what I am working on. I would give it a C- at best. The best swing came on the 9th hole, 220 yard par 3, downwind. I finally made a swing where I felt the pause, and the arms down stuff like I practice. I hit the 4 iron about 215 yards, it rolled just off the back of the green about 20-Ft from the pin.  I might play 10 yards shorter on every iron shot, and make that pause swing, cause I can still hit it about 90-95% the distance.  Distance wedges or 3/4 wedges are going to different. Shanked two of them today trying the pause, arms down stuff. Might spend a bit of time looking at the video on those shots specifically.
    • Day 350: good practice session today. Hit about 25 balls, working slowly on my priority piece. It looks decent in slow motion. Better at full speed but not quite there. Then putted for about an hour. Focused on putts inside 10’ but also did a stack putting session.
    • Two of my golfing Buddie's are left handed. I will play a couple of rounds and use their clubs and see how I do.  Played last Thursday and had the worst game ever. (Playing in really strong winds. (SW @ 20 to 30 mph with > gusts.)  Will let everyone know when I get back out. May not play until Monday.   Thanks everyone, for your encouragement.    Terry
