Since my brother and I got caught in a down pour last weekend and looking to play this weekend with potential rain it appears to be an item that I must have in the bag now...I've been lurking but they're quite expensive...really for an umbrella....

Any recommendations in terms of type, where did you buy it from?

Get one with a 2 piece cover (whatever it's called) so it won't pop. I'm a Sun Mountain fan(man) so I got one of theirs this spring. It's a tad heavier than my old one, but it's really strong.

Golf umbrellas might seem expensice compared to a generic umbrella you'd find at Sears or the drug store, but trust me, you don't want to be caught in actual rain with those.

You typically can't go wrong with an OEM brolly. They don't want their logo all rusted and flapping inside out on TV.

Yes I was looking at the PINGS, Nikes, Sun Mountains all double canopy 68"...I'm still debating if ~$60 or so is worth it...I found the new 2010 Nike VR black and red on Ebay for a good price but I need it for this weekend.

Prorate the cost over its lifespan - a good golf umbrella will last you many years.

You also need to decide if you want the umbrella shaft to be frequency-matched and pured.

I never thought I would get one, but I love the mini-umbrella that I have that keeps my clubs dry...I think that is more important than a big one...

I got mine for 2 euro.
Not well made and they can break if it gets really windy.

But it's better than paying 40 euro for a PING umbrella.....

You want to actually be able to use the thing, and count on it to work properly when it's needed most, don't you? A decent umbrella versus the cost of one round of golf - an umbrella that will probably last > 10 years - is too much money? Not sure I follow your cost saving logic on that one.

How many times a year do you go golfing in the rain?

I've only gone twice this year Why pay 40 euro for only 2 days? I'd happily pay 2. Dunlop don't make terrible umbrella's they're just not strong enough to handle gales.

Weather here in Wisconsin is 50/50 crap shoot...Scattered showers last weekend turned out to be down pour. I was lucky enough to bring my little umbrella but it didn't help keep my bag from the down pours...A nice 68" would definitely do justice.

The rain can be hitting you at a 45 degree angle and you can keep your body and at least 1/2 your bag dry (still gotta use the bag rainhood of course - never take that out).

Like anything else, you get what you pay for (within reason). If it's a priority item, then don't skimp. Otherwise, just cover your head with a napkin...
