You most certainly are entitled to your opinion and by all means, play the game like you want to play it. I was just trying to help you see the logic behind the statistic.

No I have always known that on tour the stats are calculated only when a stroke is made on the green. Sometimes for our weekly mens competition we will have a side competiton with putting, again only shots on the green are counted.

I have always had a debate with myself on whether to count the off green putts or not. I feel like I am short changing myself when I don't count all "putts" on and off the green. In the end I never converse with anyone regarding my putting stats, all I compare it to is my historic statistiscs. Lately I have gone out 0.2 (putts per hole) cause I have been working on my long game so much. After having this conversation though I can see the merit in going to the standard method, as I get better and better I will become more focussed on GIR's and fairways etc. At the moment they are pretty meaningless because they are so miniscule.

We are all entitled to take our own slant on things and this is mine, not forcing you to do the same.

We are, but in choosing to define things differently you sacrifice the right or privilege to compare your stats to others or to really even talk about the topic. There's an accepted standard, you're defying it, and that's that. No?

No I am certainly playing the right game,

So it only counts as a putt if you are going for the hole??? Now we have a different definition from your first post which stated that it only counts if you use the putter. I've used my putter to get out from under a tree from more than 150 yards out... I used the putter and hit toward the hole, although with no chance of even getting halfway there, but I guess that isn't a putt by your standards. But if I do the same thing from 10 yards off the green and hit the ball hard enough to reach the hole, and in the right general direction, then it IS a putt???? There's too much judgment and justification in your definition for me. I like the way the rest of the world defines it. If the ball touches the green, it's a putt... if not then it isn't. Black and white. It's impossible for me to give myself a 2 putt par when I missed the green. It has to be something else.

If I use the putter I also don't call it a chip, because it isn't. I call a putt from the fringe a fringe putt. It isn't a chip, but it also isn't statistically a putt either.

Well thats just being stupid, the player always knows when a stroke is genuinely going for the hole (as I said, I regularly even remove the pin) and I count it as I see fit. I am not interested with comparing stats with other people, all that is is a pissing contest. I keep it for my own sake to track how my putting game is going. I believe by counting the fringe putts it better represents my putting ability. If I have a 3 putt then it shows my first putt from the fringe wasn't good enough and pushes up the stats accordingly. If you want to count it differently then be my guest :)

Along with standard stats, I've started keeping my own personal one called fringies. If the ball ends up on the fringe rather than a true GIR, I note that also.

Has a recent round where I hit my solid irons about a half club long, and ended up on the back fringe. My not-so-good approaches ended up short left or right, and one shot landed 3 yds. onto the green and spun back to the fringe. I ended up with seven fringies on the day.

I would suggest that small greens and/or strong cross winds tend to increase fringies .

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
