Hello everyone! My ball flight has a tendency to get really high. It's not ballooning up because of excessive backspin, and my ball position is even a little back, so I don't know what is wrong. Any ideas?

you might be flipping the clubhead at impact.

can you post a swing video?

When you find the answer let me know, I tend to hit the ball high also.

Shaft flex, club head, ball and ball position makes a difference. Ultimately though, the swing plays the biggest part.

A video would help, but it is not impossible that you flip or don't have the forward leaning shaft at impact.

How is your distance? What is your 120 club? 150 club? 180 club? If your distance isn't suffering, it isn't too big of a problem. I hit the ball really high and actually like it. I can hit a ball lower if I need to and it is easier to judge distance because the ball doesn't roll forward when it hits the green.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Clubs don't matter, we don't even know is physical make up or his swing. You can't tell by yardage, i can say my 120 club could be a very light Gap wedge or a hard sandwedge for me, he hits a light nine. My 150 is a 9-iron, my 180 is inbetween an 7 or 8 iron. So he is basically two clubs less than me, that doesn't mean he hits it high.

But i will ask this, does the ball look like its shot out of a cannon were it goes horizontal more than it goes vertical, or does it just go sky high really early? Because if you hit down on the ball first, and your hands are ahead of the ball at impact, the club should deloft from 4-8 degrees, or 1 to 2 clubs. That means if your PW is a 48°, it would be a 44 to 42 degrees. That will make the ball start off on a boring trajectory.

If its starting really high, it could be the shafts, if there two flexible for your swing speed. Or your flipping at the ball adding loft to the club.

You have almost a 30 yard difference between your 9 and 8 iron. Wow! I wish I could find that distance with my 9 iron!

120 - light 9 iron

Based on those distances, I would say it's part technique, extra loft being placed on the ball during contact and the club hitting the grass before ball. Most high level strikers hit down with a lower trajectory due to ball before contact (grooves grabbing the ball instead of the ball sliding up the face) and a hands before ball position during contact which is acheived by getting your weight to your left side during contact.

The ball that you are using could also be a factor.
