in the downswing, i know that the right elbow should be close to the body, ... but where. should the right elbow be located on the outside of the right hip, or should it be in front, touching the front of the right hip???
Thanks for your thoughts!!!

You read my mind, same question here. Last time I was at the range I was struggling to find a good place to consciously place my right elbow. It kept drifting farther away from my body, but I wasn't sure if it should be tucked and pointing straight through my right hip or out a bit and pointing toward the end of my right buttock.

quick drill for you.

take your golf stance with a ball in your right hand. simulate your backswing and throw the ball under down the target line. That will simulate the swing

well, that all depends really. if you move your hips quickly your elbow will be to the side of your hips, if you move them slower it will be more in front of your hips. but there should definitely be a little bit of separation either way, and you want your elbow to be moving more forward than down.

I'm asking how my address should be, before I take my backswing. you seem to be implying that the right elbow should be pointing through my right hip at address?

well, the OP was asking about downswing, maybe you misread his post. but as far as address goes, i don't think it really matters. personally, i bend mine slightly inward to preset my backswing motion.

I think the folding of the right arm on the backswing is more important (and controlable) than worrying about the downswing. This is where the avg golfer gets F...up watching the touring pros. They push the arms straight back maintaining the "V" as long as possible then they drop the right elbow into the slot on the way down. No way in hell I can make that move. I start folding my right arm when the club is parallel to the ground and keep it tucked for the rest of the swing. As long as I keep the club head outside the hands and the shoulders turning as far as possible I can still generate decent power. (not 120 mph but certainly 100).

It would be interesting if anyone has a link to a lesson discussing this topic.

Yeah, you're right, I forgot he was asking about downswing. Whoops.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
