Best Instruction Book and/or Video?

I have seen SnT, AJ Golf, etc. but I would like to get feedback from REAL peeps rather than an infomercial and "drink the Koolaid".

I have seen a pro a few times but thanks to this WONDERFUL economy, I just cannot afford more lessons. Thankfully I have a course and got an "inside deal" where greens fee is only $7 to walk 9. That way I can still play twice a week and not break the bank. Anyway...

I am on a mission to self-teach and fix my swing flaws and hope to find a good book and/or dvd that has solid visuals. I have the SnT book (The Definitive Guide) and IMO the pictures are very poor. No swing sequence and most of the time the photo doesn't explain the topic being discussed on that page. Being a visual learner, I could read a paragraph 100 times and MAYBE get it, where seeing it and being able to mimic the motion(s) I can get it much sooner.

Ben Hogan's five fundamentals is a must read. The illustrations are top notch.
Because you are a visual learner, I would get a video camera if you don't have one already. (best one for $100 or less is the Kodak Zx-1) What you feel you are doing and what you are actually doing can be vastly different.

"Golf My Way", by Jack Nicklaus is hands down the best golf instructional video I've ever seen. Very helpful if you're trying to learn the fundamentals. It made a major improvement in my short game.

I suggest The Golf Swing by David Leadbetter. Older book, cheesy illustrations, but focuses on basics and fundamentals.

Less illistrations, Jim Mcleans 8 steps.. I like it because its not set in stone, but gives you what everybody does right. Dispells alot of myths and says alot of good things, as well as the correct way to practice swing changes.

I find this hard to believe, maybe it's because the books I get don't usually have a lot of illustrations -- but, I am in the middle of reading SnT, and I find it has a good amount of pictures and illustrations -- either way, its one of the better books I have read, plus, it is helping my game.

I would also recommend Andrew Rice's "It's all about impact', and Shawn Clements DVD and YouTube videos.

Hogan's book is great for setup essentials. The Brian Manzella videos both on his site and on youtube are the best instructional videos I've seen. His stuff is based on the latest golf findings through science, but is explained in a simple manner. Best of all, he's not a "one-size-fits-all" guy!

"The Golf Swing and Its Master Key Explained" by Noel Thomas, book or ebook + DVD. You can put the authors swing in slow motion, or advance it frame by frame. I have been using this for several years and I have no need for anything else.

i tottally agree with you the book is very difficult to read, but its really good information. I am currently snting, and I had to get the videos to fully understand the method.
