I currently play mizuno mp-60 irons, but the more I look at them, the more I feel I have used them too long. I included some pictures of the 7 iron and PW below. I am a 14 handicap, but I play these irons as well as any others i've tried including game improvements. I hit a lot of bad iron shots, but its operator error and has nothing to do with the irons themselves. That's the part of my game I'm trying to work on the most, but I could just use some opinions on how worn my irons seem and if so maybe some suggestions for some new ones. As you can tell, I play a lot, usually 4 rounds a week minimum. Thanks in advance guys!

I'd say you should clean the face and grooves. Using a brass brush will remove the rust spots. Unless the grooves are really worn, they look Ok to me. I've got MP 57's and they would look the same as yours if I didn't take care of them.

I don't think it's rust, I literally just think its worn away from me striking the ball on the same spot so many times, I do take care of them. Does a brush take those wear spots away though?

Mizuno's are made from forged mild steel. What you see is rust. Once you clean it off (Google "remove rust from golf clubs"), you will see a wear area where you have hit the ball. You, of course, can send them in and have the faces re-chromed but it's expensive and not really necessary, so long as the grooves have not been damaged.

Even with those marks they look good to you though, like grooves and all? I don't really care about the chrome, that lasts like a month on new golf clubs.

Depends how much use they have had.
If you bought them second hand, they were owned by an exceptionally good player who seems to have practised with his 7 iron and nothing else.

Do the others look like the 7 iron? If so, it may well be time to get some new ones. I am guessing that they were pretty well worn out when you got them.
As for this comment of yours: "I literally just think its worn away from me striking the ball on the same spot so many times" , what else would it be? A 14 handicapper who says he hits a lot of bad iron shots is most unlikely to have irons with wear spots like that 7 iron.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

It's always time to get new clubs...

Yours are fine...clean them up...bring them to a club guy to see if they are damaged. When you see a player that has short irons looking like your seven iron, you ask for a lot of strokes.

I actually bought them brand new 4 years ago. The marks are from me, I used to be a single digit, now I suck. By a lot of bad iron shots I just mean i either hit it too far or too short a lot.

The main thing I'm asking is just whether the wear marks could be taking away any playability or whether they're alright and just need a little cleaning. I'm not a huge proponent of buying new clubs, I tend to think people do it too much, especially when it comes to irons, because the only real advances I've seen worth buying new clubs for have been in drivers over the past 5 years.

I've hit quite a few balls over the years with my Mizunos (purchased 2nd hand in about 1994) and they look like new compared to those.

Clean them up and take them out to the course. You will know whether they are playing well or not.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
