I have some Golf Pride grips on my irons. I'm not sure which ones they are, but I think they're the standard, run of the mill grips. They might even be original?

Anyways, when it gets really warm out and my hands sweat, I have a very difficult time holding on to the club.

I have a wedge with a multicompound grip that works a bit better, but am curious what you all think.

Thoughts?

Use wrist bands, use a glove if you don't, use a towel on your hands and on the grip, keep a change of glove, take your glove off to air it, don't play in the heat. :)

im a fan of the golf pride multi-compound of all the grips ive tried it works best for me imo

Just got back from the range. Had a towel, just like I did yesterday, and was wiping my hands and the grips. It didn't work. I had to leave before finishing the bucket because I couldn't even hold on to the club. It was sliding down at least half an inch.

To me the grips really doesn't matter, I just stock up on golf gloves because I sweat through about 5 in a round.

Wash the grips-it helps a great deal. Also rotate gloves throughout the round. I have multi-compounds now and they are better than the Golf Pride solid black grip. But, I will bre trying a full cord Lamkin soon.

I wash mine with warm water & mild soap....this usually brings back the tackiness.

The Golf Pride New Decade is a two compound grip....corded rubber on the lower & soft rubber on the upper......seems to work well when it is wet.

Do you use a glove?

I do, but I desperately need a new one. I'm gonna go check out grips tomorrow and will grab a new glove or two also. I like the idea of rotating gloves during a round.

Went to golfgalaxy and checked some stuff out. I kinda knew that my grips were too small for me...looks like I need the "jumbo" size...but the new dec multicompounds don't seem to come in anything bigger than midsize.

I also looked at the tour wraps and liked them. They come in jumbo.

Anyone know the difference between tour wrap and the 2g/g2 or whatever it is?

Take a look at the Lamkin crossline midsize full cord. I just put the standard full cord on my irons. I really like them. lots of bite and feel. If the midsize still isn't big enough, you can always add another wrap or two of tape.

I've tried several grips to find one that is more "sweatproof". In the end, the regualr tour velvet works the best. You can get the corded grips, but they tear up gloves pretty quickly when the gloves get sweaty. If you find a better one, please post.

Well I just plopped down the money for a full set of multicompounds. I'm still uneasy about it but nothing was jumping out at me. I liked the Tour Wrap 2G but felt that 1, they would get slippery - 2 that they were almost too tacky and would get slippy and 3 that they were a little soft for me. Plus, I couldn't get midsize in white or red, only black.

After that it was either lampkin full cord midsize, multicompound midsize, tour velvet full cord(only black again in mid) or Tour Wrap full cord(which they didn't even have).

I didn't really feel like the velvet or lampkin cords were tacky enough so that kind of forced me into multicompounds. They are HIDEOUS, but feel pretty good. I have one on a wedge so I kind of know how they feel and wasn't too worried about buying a full set...It's kind of like choosing the least of all evils.

Oh well, I like the feel(as of now) and will surely get used to them. Time will tell!

The problem I have is sweating on my non-glove hand. There is a product called "Gorilla Gold Grip Enhancer" that really works well for me. It's basically a towel a little larger than a washcloth that comes in a plastic ziplock bag. You can either squeeze with your hand or squeeze around your club grip. It's made from beeswax and makes your hand or club feel very tacky, so you can get a good grip. I found it at a sporting goods store that carries a lot of baseball equipment. I think for baseball, it replaces the old pine tar rags. Anyway, I saw this post & thought I'd give my $.02.

I played with a guy a day or two ago and he swore by the rain gloves for playing in the heat. I thought this might help if you sweat a bunch.

I'm a big fan of the Golf Pride New Decade. I don't play with a glove, so these really work for me, and we can get some very hot and humid days in the midwest.

    • Yea, if I were to make a post arguing against the heat map concept, citing some recent robot testing would be my first point. The heat map concept is what I find interesting, more on that below. The robot testing I have looked at, including the one you linked, do discreet point testing then provide that discrete data in various forms. Which as you said is old as the hills, if you know of any other heat map concept type testing, I would be interested in links to that though! No, and I did say in my first post "if this heat map data is valid and reliable" meaning I have my reservations as well. Heck beyond reservations. I have some fairly strong suspicions there are flaws. But all I have are hunches and guesses, if anyone has data to share, I would be interested to see it.  My background is I quit golfing about 9 years ago and have been toying with the idea of returning. So far that has been limited to a dozen range sessions in late Summer through Fall when the range closed. Then primarily hitting foam balls indoors using a swing speed monitor as feedback. Between the range closing and the snow flying I did buy an R10 and hit a few balls into a backyard net. The heat map concept is a graphical representation of efficiency (smash factor) loss mapped onto the face of the club. As I understand it to make the representation agnostic to swing speed or other golfer specific swing characteristics. It is more a graphical tool not a data tool. The areas are labeled numerically in discrete 1% increments while the raw data is changing at ~0.0017%/mm and these changes are represented as subtle changes in color across those discrete areas. The only data we care about in terms of the heat map is the 1.3 to 1.24 SF loss and where was the strike location on the face - 16mm heal and 5mm low. From the video the SF loss is 4.6% looking up 16mm heal and 5mm low on the heat map it is on the edge of where the map changes from 3% loss to 4%. For that data point in the video, 16mm heal, 5mm low, 71.3 mph swing speed (reference was 71.4 mph), the distance loss was 7.2% or 9 yards, 125 reference distance down to 116. However, distance loss is not part of a heat map discussion. Distance loss will be specific to the golfers swing characteristics not the club. What I was trying to convey was that I do not have enough information to determine good or bad. Are the two systems referencing strike location the same? How accurate are the two systems in measuring even if they are referencing from the same location? What variation might have been introduced by the club delivery on the shot I picked vs the reference set of shots? However, based on the data I do have and making some assumptions and guesses the results seem ok, within reason, a good place to start from and possibly refine. I do not see what is wrong with 70mph 7 iron, although that is one of my other areas of questioning. The title of the video has slow swing speed in all caps, and it seems like the videos I watch define 7i slow, medium, and fast as 70, 80, and 90. The whole question of mid iron swing speed and the implications for a players game and equipment choices is of interest to me as (according to my swing speed meter) over my ~decade break I lost 30mph swing speed on mine.
    • Maxfli, Maltby, Golfworks, all under the Dicks/Golf Galaxy umbrella... it's all a bit confounding. Looking at the pictures, they all look very, very similar in their design. I suspect they're the same club, manufactured in the same factory in China, just with different badging.  The whacky pricing structure has soured me, so I'll just cool my heels a bit. The new Mizuno's will be available to test very soon. I'm in no rush.
    • Day 23 - 2026-01-12 Finally outdoors again with 10 minutes of 7 iron work in the net. Also mirror work. Excited to get back on the range tomorrow and maybe do some film.
    • Day 10: 2026.01.12 Hit 25 balls at the range, working on rotating right hip during backswing.
