I'm thinking about making the switch to G15's from my 08 BB's. I hit the G15's in the shop and they strike the ball pretty nice, but its hard to tell if they are better than my BB's. Is the technology better in the G15's or at least enough to really make a difference?

Im also wondering if its worth saving $100 and looking at the G10's.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What is it that you don't like about your BB's? Iron technology doesn't change that fast, so I would stick with the irons you have. And your other question, I would go with G10 to save money over the G15. If you really want to be sure, pick up a G10 7 iron off ebay and try it out.

If you are a 20 handicap, my honest view is that any improvement you see based on a "difference in technology" between the 2 sets would pale in comparison to the improvement you would get from working on your swing.

My totally unsolicited advice is that it would be better to take whatever money you have allocated for upgrading 2 year-old clubs and spend it on lessons.

With their stock shafts, Big Berthas and G10s tend to hit the ball very high. Might end up with similar flight patterns.

And as c.lassiter said, lessons might help more than new clubs. (Unless BBs hit ball too high, maybe)

Focus, connect and follow through!

Thanks for the advice. This is honestly what I was looking for; I appreciate it! I guess the hype all the new clubs get makes you think it will make your golf swing better but in actuality it probably doesn't. Thanks again for the candid feedback!

Buy the G15's they are great. I like them better than the G10's so it was worth the money for me, easily. They are very forgiving and make very solid contact. Won't make your golf swing better but it sure is fun to play with clubs that are this good and this forgiving.

Good clubs-but no more forgiving or easy to hit than Big Berthas.

To throw an alternative suggestion out there, try out the i15s and see what you think of them. Something that is more of a "player's" club might force you to think more about making good contact rather than looking to the equipment for forgiveness.

I've never really considered this. Might be worth a try though! Are the i15's that much less forgiving?

Just MHO, but I don't see why you would jump from the Big Berthas to the i15s. Big Berthas are one of the ultimate SGI shovel-type clubs--very forgiving. I had a set of the BB 06 irons until I got tired of them and switched to the Wilson Staff Di9s (which are just as easy for me to hit but much more fun to play than the BB). If you're looking at the G15 vs i15, why make the game tougher than it needs to be. The G15 irons get rave reviews, from low handicappers on up.

On a side note, I have a used set of Ping G5 irons on the way that I couldn't pass up, so I am curious to try the G series myself. I love my Di9s, but I'll give the G5s a play in my next round.

Equipment:

I can't really comment on forgiveness, but they really aren't that difficult to put a good shot out there. The short irons in particular are impressive with a smaller club-head that looks quite sleek for a Ping iron!.

I recently encountered a guy who owns a split set; I think he plays i15 in the 7,8 & 9 irons and the G15s for 6 and above.

I may try a few swings of the i15's just to see how they play. I'm curious to see how you like the G5's. I like my BB's as well, but much like you I think I'm getting a bit tired of them. Not to say my game has improved that much, but I'm wondering if a change might help a bit.

    • Day 232 4-8 Rotation work tonight. Used just a mirror for the most part. Recorded a few swings just to see where I am.
    • Day 31 (8 Apr 26) - Worked with a coupe of kids on the school golf team on the range - then joined them for a few holes of practice play.
    • I’m sure you know his practice schedule 🤣 also, he had a wrist injury recently.
    • I’m going to go out on a limb and say that maybe if Jason spent less time on his clothes and more on golf he would win more.
    • So, my league starts next week, and I have a golf trip in two weeks. I am thinking no matter what I do, I will have to do my left leg and downswing turning piece. At least this turning piece helps me negate shanking the shot.  I probably shanked the foam ball about 10x in a row yesterday. Given, I was doing downswing work with not much caring about the body rotation. I was struggling to feel the same thing from two days ago. Where I was able to feel the arm piece and the turning piece working together. Yesterday, my body turn was just destroying my arms down piece.  That said, it’s not like I have a great feel for where the club is in space. Especially with how fast the downswing is. If I do the arms downswing piece with the turn piece better. I just feel those two things. Then after I am going into the finish I am like, "Oh, that was center of the clubface". I am glad the clubface found the ball. Maybe that is normal when you are trying to fix your mechanics. You are so hyper focused on the hitting the swing feel that the feel for the club is just gone.  I’ve watched YouTube videos where they talk about how correct lower-body mechanics give you the feeling of having tons of time in the downswing. I’m like, BS! there is no time. If anything, it feels faster now. 🤣 I do notice that the clubface stays more open past impact, less flippy. Not like I am trying to do that. Actually, with the downswing arm piece, I am trying to feel like I am rolling my wrist (closing the club a bit more).
