I took my AP1s out of my bag and put a set of forged 690.CBs in. I got them from a guy to took really good care of them for $200. I will play my first round with them tomorrow so I hope I can hit them pure. I will focus
more on the back of the ball and try to make good contact.

Any advice before I play them for the first time?

You went the opposite of what I did. I had blades, then went to CB's. Blades definitely boost your confidence, and you definitely want to try and focus on the back of the ball like you said. Good luck.

Blades really aren't that hard to hit.
I have some old blades that I practice with.

You should do pretty well with them, they're much more accurate than cavity back's if you strike them well.

I agree that blades are not necessarily that much harder to hit than cavity backs, but they are less forgiving. I've found nothing in my personal experience or through golf research that suggests that blades are somehow "more accurate" than cavity backs however.

I agree that blades are not

There was a study done and the dispersion on dead-centre hits with a CB was something like 15 feet. The blades were under 10 feet.

Iacas posted the link a few times, probably in the big thread about blades but I don't want to dig through 200 pages.

http://www.oobgolf.com/content/the+w..._Epiphany.html I'm not sure if this is the link you are talking about, but it backs up what you are saying. The gist of the article is that while doing some Iron Byron tests the author found that cavity backs only held a real advantage on mishits off the toe. His data is from a while back, though. With today's cavity back tech, I'd guess that the dead center patterns would be a bit closer now, with the edge still going to blades.

I agee that blades don't seem any harder to hit to me. If you are making a descent swing, the iron type shouldn't make a ton of difference. I much prefer a blade type club just because I don't like thick top lines and big clubs.

I read that article, just don't see how it applies to the vast, vast majority of golfers. I know I'm not hitting it dead on the sweet spot most of the time, and my ballstriking is solid enough to play Nike Forged Pro Combos, MacGregor MT Pro-Ms, or 1983 Titleist Tour Model Blades. Might make a difference for scratch golfers or Iron Byron, but I don't forsee the OP's accuracy improving with a shift to blades.

690cb aren't blades hence the cb. They are cavity backs. The 690mb are blades
