After 54 holes of the John Deere, Stricker has birdied HALF the holes. (27)
If you went to your local golf course and PLACED your ball on the green, 10 feet from the hole in regulation, giving yourself the easist putt, on perfect greens, do you think you'd hole half the putts? I'll bet you wouldn't even be close, and that's without hitting drives and approach shots TO that position. Would you be at 25 under?
These guys aren't good, they're amazing. (That guy, anyway)
I'd be happy to hole a third of those putts, and I consider myself a pretty reasonable putter.

A bit of an object lesson there for all of those 41 year old "10" markers just biding their time until they stroll onto the Champions Tour when they turn 50.

He wasn't making 10+ footers the whole tournament was he? He made a couple longish ones, but there were a lot of holes on the back that I saw where basically had tap ins for birdie after a great approach shot.

My point is that in this tournament he would beat us by 10 or 15 shots even if he had to play each hole from tee to green and we had the luxury of placing our ball on the green 10 feet from the hole in regulation.

I am always very happy to have a 10 foot birdie putt. I was trying to make a point about how incrdeible his scoring is. I think it's pretty clear that he didn't have 10 foot putts on 54 holes.

..And it looks like the birdie train will continue rolling. I'd like to see someone try and at least give him a run for his money tomorrow

I read this quote from a former tour player - every week there are around 140 people out there and one of them just will have the tournament of his life, holing everything he looks at, hitting miracle shots and so on. So yes, if you give 140 people the chance to make half the putts from 10 feet, there is a high percentage that somebody actually could pull it off. If it would be only you and me trying that, our chances arent so great. And i guess Stricker, despite being a good putter, will have a hard time doing this again in his near future.

I think the all time low for a PGA Tour even over 72 holes was somewhere around -32? Thats an old record and it takes a lot of attempts to break it, but afterall, its just a matter of time, and somebody will have his special week and break it. Its all about the numbers - and it helps when the guys who try it, are GOOD :).

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
