so basically to hit a solid shot and not pick/thin you gotta have your weight forward but i've always been confused with this.
Do you move your weight forward with your downswing or just start forward and stay forward?

That would depend on the swing ideology you are using.

What type of swing, if any specific type, are you trying for?

shrug, friends just give me lessons then give me drills
last time i talked to him he said shoudl be about 75% on my left foot but i wasnt sure when.
I"m assuming stack and tilt is put more weight on your front foot and rotate right?

That is correct, Stack and Tilt advocates more weight on the left side at address than most other swing methods.

I would advise you to have more weight on your left side at address than on your right side, and almost ALL(90% or so) of your weight on your left side at impact. There is no need for much weight to be on the right side at impact, even with the driver.

See the below photo, the position of Hogan's right foot proves that not much weight is on his right side. The outside of his right foot is up because a vast majority of his weight is on his left side. If he had much weight on his right side, he wouldn't have his right foot in this position, plain and simple. See how firmly planted his left foot is, that's where the weight is at.

yeah i've just had a habit of picking lately and losing a lot of distance
So i was just wondering if i started a bit more forward with the same ball setup and such would it help solve the problem
or am i just opening a can of worms

With your current swing, what is your weight distribution, between your left and right foot? 50/50 or something else?

Honestly, we really need a swing video to be certain.

I have an old video somewhere i'll track it down
I'll just move more weight to my front foot for now. My shoulder has been bugging me again and it pops with the way i was doing it and it doesnt when i'm forward more doing a full turn

How you get there doesn't matter as much, it is more of a style issue, Stack & Tilt vs shifting to the right side. If you look at Charlie Wi, he sometimes gets his lower body moving forward almost on the backswing. His hips have moved a lot at the top of the backswing compared to address. At impact, 90-95% of the weight should be on the front (left) foot. What is important to notice is that you must not allow the upper centers to move forward. The spine will tilt to the right at impact, because the lower body has moved forward, while the upper centers has remained relatively still.

If the upper centers move forward, you get more weight forward of course, but this mess with other things, like where the bottom of the swing is, which can lead to problems. Regardless of how you take the club back, if you shift the body back over the back foot, or keep it centered, you have to get the weight forward, while keeping the upper body centered. S&T advice you don't move the body over the back foot, since you just have to move it back forward again on the downswing, which can be difficult to master.

Yeah after my last lesson/swing change he was trying to get rid of my sway saying i shouldnt sway back so much
So i find it almost impossible to rotate if my weight is like 50/50 because of my shoulder surgery i had a few years ago. It just makes it pop and my swing goes to shit once that happens.
I was experimenting with it yesterday where i dunno put 75% of my weight my front foot and i can just rotate like that and it felt a lot easier to keep my head stable and do a full turn. I just wasntn sure if it was something legit or not
