I am probably silly for posting this, but I think I may now own 2 fake Callaway fairway woods. I picked up the 2007 Big Bertha 3 and 7 woods on EBAY from 2 different sellers. The 7 wood was advertised as NEW and the other was used. They both appeared authenic when they arrived and felt good at the range. I just returned from a weeks vacation and for whatever reason, decided to do the magnet test on them. According to specs, the Big Bertha 2007 fairway woods are made from stainless steel..at least the face is. Both clubs failed the magnet test (ie...the magnet adheres quite nicely to all parts of the club heads). If anyone else can confirm my suspicions, I would appreciate it. The only good news is that if they are fake, I didnt have alot of money in them.

There are some stainless steels that are magnetic. I'm not sure which SS the Cally "woods" are made from, but this is not the only test. Maybe someone else that has the same models, can test theirs also and confirm your thoughts.

Yeah, without knowing what type of stainless steel they are made from I wouldn't base too much on the magnet test. I would contact Callaway and ask them. They used to have a pretty nice registration tool on their website that would at least tell you if the serial # on the club was valid.

IIR the magnet test is for the drivers, as in a magnet will not stick to a titanium head, the woods are steel as in metal so magnets will stick.

Take them to a local pro shop and have them look at the heads and shafts, the one I bought was hard to tell from the head as they clone them, but the shaft was longer than one in the shop (as in driver length) and like a fishing rod.

OK..I may have jumped the gun. I'm not a metallurgist, but after reading a few replies read a bit on the internet. Apparently there are some metals that are stainless steel that do attract a magnet and others that don't. It's all in the makeup as there are different variations os stainless steel. I also emailed the one EBAY vendor and he was adamant that the new club I bought was genuine. Next time I'm at a shop, I may have it verified...just to be sure. Thanks for the replies.

Kind of a newbie here, but shouldn't the clubs have serial numbers on them? If so, can't you call Callaway and inquire about their authenticity? Sorry if I'm totally off here...

Cheers,

Callaway only puts S/N's on 8 irons (i think), drivers and 3 woods. My 3 wood does have an s/n but the 7 does not.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
