Well, i have not been hitting my driver for a while now and my scores have been coming down...for the most part. I currently have a Cobra 427 SS 10.5 with a regular, high kick shaft. I hit it very high and with way to much spin, sometimes spinning it back on softer fairways. Worst yet, a snap hook is a very real possibility every time i tee it up. (I read somewhere that the 427 is set with a closed clubface.) So i got tired of it and decided to go see what else is out there.

I tried alot of drivers, price range of $300 MAX. and wanted something lower launching and lower spinning. After hitting a bunch, the pro doing the fitting had me a FT-9 tour with a stiff shaft and 8.5* loft. I was still launching it 11-12 degrees and my spin rate was 1800 rpm. Is there Anything wrong with that. My carry distance was still good. not great. but good. like 250.

I plan on going back this week to try the ft-9 tour in other lofts and shafts but i thought i would just ask here for maybe some insight or info. also, reviews from people with this club would be nice. I hit the ft-9 straighter than any of the other drivers which was my most important requirement. Next was lowering my ball flight and spin, i just don't know if that was a little too low.

I'm a big fan of this driver. I switched from the Mizuno Mp-600 in an effort to lower my launch and spin.

I don't have any launch monitor data for you, but it is easily the most forgiving driver I've ever owned. I hit drives all over the face my last round - heel, toe, dead center - my gps yardages ranged from 240-270 yards. The 240 was horribly struck - thin and off the heel - but still managed to get down a respectable distance and find the fairway. The 270 was struck almost perfectly. All the rest were between 255 and 265 and on those impact varied from about 1 ball width toward the heel to about 1 ball width toward the toe.

As for launch and spin, all I can say is that it definitely spins less than than the MP-600 and launches lower. With my 9.5 it almost rolls out more than I'd like. I've been thinking of getting a slightly spinnier shaft to see if I can increase carry and reduce roll. Launch with my shaft is a solid medium, where my MP-600 was medium-high to high. I really like it's ball flight...I'm yet to balloon a shot and that used to be a pretty big problem for me. Really solid in the wind as well.

i really hate my driver. its accurate and all, but if you hit the ball strait anyway who cares what driver you hit because your going to bring the club through square. thats why i dont like this driver. you can hit any driver strait and this driver will go strait but 30 yards shorter than the competition and if you miss hit it (like off the toe or heel) its going to go like half the distance (no exaggeration it will be 150 yards shorter than a good hit) when on other drivers you can get away with a miss hit.
if you do end up with an i-mix and need a shaft let me know because im getting rid of my whole set up there

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
