I've actually honestly been playing the best golf of my life lately, but the flat-stick has completely abandoned me. Earlier this year my putting was saving my ass, but now I can't seem to sink ANYTHING.

I'm using an old crappy Wilson putter that was fitted for me, should I be looking to replace it? Any drills or SOMETHING anyone can offer to get me out of this funk?

My putts per green average has risen all the way to 1.85 and it needs some help.

whats the misses are like?

They vary from sliding by the sides to missing by several inches. I just can't get the reads I used to.

go back to the basics. think through each of the different "rules" or things that you have gone through to develop your putting stroke or the things that you know you did when you were putting well. go through everything. then make sure that you are still physically doing it.

then look at your routine on the practice green and make sure it is the same as the one you use on the course. and make sure that in your routine you know how you are going to hit your putt before you step up to the ball. thats a big one for me. when i was putting well earlier in the season i had my putt lined up and i wouldnt step up to the ball until i took a practice stroke that matched what i wanted to do with my putt. but of course im too unpatient now and i take a few token practice strokes then decide i need to move my line a little higher and then i hope i get the distance close cuz im just wingin it........ hope that helps

Same here, feel like I'm putting myself into position for more birdies than ever but just not cashing in. Sunday I hit 11 greens in reg, which is quite a bit for me. Made one birdie, and that was a on a par 5 where I was just off the green in 2 and chipped it close. Missed so many birdies from 6-15 feet it made my head hurt.

That's been the story of my game this year, handicap up almost 2 full strokes from last year, just letting good chances slip away. Iron game is better than ever but it's pretty much useless if you can't finish it.

I'll just throw this out there b/c it helped me even though its very simple.
I was told to remember that where your front hand (the left one for righties) goes, so goes your putt. Ever since I started practicing this, I have saved at least 4 strokes per round. You probably already know this, just thought I'd share.

As for technique, the two biggest keys for me improving my putting were (i) TEMPO (yes, even with a putter you need very good tempo) and (ii) firming up the wrists and putting with a good rock of the shoulders.

As for equipment, you may want to try a good mallet putter -- I love mine and I know there are experts out there that believe that a mallet putter is much more forgiving than a blade (your putter seems to be a bit of a hybrid, but more of a blade than a mallet).

My 2 cents.......

    • Going to go against the grain a bit here and say that pain isn't as severe as we think it is sometimes.  A lot of times if something has been there for a long time it is really neurological.  Unless a sports med tells you it's likely to tear I would keep going with physio until a doctor tells you not to.  Good luck
    • I just wanted to post an update here.. so the person telling me that information was incorrect. They mixed up two of the courses that we play during our competition rounds and the one we played last weekend was NOT a non-smoking course.  I was also wrong in thinking that he was a member of said club, but he wasn't.. he's a member of a completely different club in our tournament pool.   The course that we will play next weekend is the one with the strict smoking ban and they have stated this clearly in their local rules.  The main reason for this is that there is a very high risk of forest fires in the area where this course is located at, so it's not to promote "health and wellbeing", but purely based on safety.
