That's true. I don't recall where, maybe on here, but I read about someone who played a round with a pro on a normal course. He said it was neat, but ultimately dead boring.

Isnt that the running joke in like every golf club? If you had a boring round you had a good one? I guess thats the same for us amateurs as for the pros.

Yeah, I'd kill for a round with no "fun" shots...

It stopped being a gripping viewing experience when Casey triple-bogeyed. Yes, Louis played really well - and I mean REALLY well, his control and accuracy in the breeze were amazing. But an exciting competition where the ultimate winner wasn't known till the last putt? Er....no.

It was disappointing that no-one really came after him. Probably the most exciting round was McIlroy's - but he was too far back, after Friday (a collapse that still has me puzzled - he has played in those conditions before, at Holywood, Portrush and Co Down. Heck, he grew up on them). That Lee Westwood came through with a strong one wasn't a surprise - but too far back, again. Darren Clarke seemed to want more wind - his performance on Friday was amazing.

It has been pointed out that Woods' win in 2000 got a lot of people excited. It did and his last round was nothing more than a triumphal procession. So maybe PR and hype are the key to keeping it interesting? I hope not - I'd rather see on the TV close contests between big names (and there were big names there - look at the final leaderboard) a couple of underdogs. So Pebble Beach was more of a spectacle than St Andrews, this year.

What to do? Well, it could be that the pin positions on Sunday were, as Monty observed, such that defensive golf was the only option. If so, maybe the powers that be should look back and remember what Bobby Jones so liked about St Andrews - the oppoprtunity to take a variety of different routes to the green. Some of them would be paths leading to glory; some would lead to disaster. It's what the Masters does, when it does it right - hold out the chance of immortality. And Jones originally modelled Augusta on St Andrews, as far as I can gather...

Just mho.

There was a moment of doubt. When he was up only 3 strokes with a lot of holes to play. Then he not only shut the door but SLAMMED it. So there was a moment there when at least I was thinking this could get really interesting. Other than that I still enjoyed the final round.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
