TopFlite Gamer V2

I currently use the Bridgeston B330 RX but am running low and have a hard time spending $40/dozen. At half the price, the TopFlite Gamer V2 seems like it may be a good alternative. If there is anybody out there who has played the Gamer V2 and the Bridgestone, I would love to hear some comparisons.

Also, maybe there is another, cheaper, ball that would be a good alternative to the B330 RX.

I forgot to mention, I was also thinking about playing refurbished Pro V1 or Pro V1x balls as I can get them for $20/dozen as well. Do the refurbished balls play just as well?

I just started playing the original gamer (as I said in another thread, it is only $9.75 a dozen at Dick's) and it feels nice around the green. I have not played a full round with it yet but will be tomorrow.

The original gamer ended up shredding before the round was up for me and I'm a high handicapper still working on my wedge game. I stopped after the 1st dozen and went back to B330RX's. Not sure how the V2 improved on the original though.

The new V2 is a major improvement to the original in durability. I started playing them and can't find anything about them I don't like especially the price. They spin, not like a proV, but they will stop just fine.

go with the e series bridgestone. $27 per dozen and you will like them. I went from 330rx to the e% and love it.

As someone mentioned, do a search on the Top Flite Gamer V2. In one thread, you'll see I wrote a nice post commenting on how I surprisingly really liked the ball. (I say surprisingly because, well, it's a Top Flite!) But seriously, for the price, I don't think you can beat it.

You're a fairly high HCP'er playing $42 a dozen golf balls? I'm not picking on you or anything, but I just gotta wonder why some do that. I mean, play what you want, and if you can afford it, more power to you, but surely you know you probably won't/can't tell the difference in premium balls against MOST other, cheaper balls. No?

agreed... they shred like crazy, but felt great.

maybe a touch harder, but very close, and MUCH, MUCH more durable... I have one sleeve left and will pick up another dozen or two soon.

I have only played the 330 Rx for 1/2 a round... certainly the V2 will loose a little spin from urethane balls, but it's the next best thing. To me the V2 is a slightly longer, slightly cheaper NXT Tour.

I disagree with this, there is certainly an issue with regards to losing expensive golf balls instead of cheap ones, I certainly see the issue your alluding to, but if he can afford it, good for him, with regards to not be able to tell the difference, you can not be serious...around the green there is major differences, even in putting, blind freddy should be able to tell this. However, even off the tee the balls will behave differently. Just because someone has a high handicap does not mean they can not tell the difference between a tour ball and topflite rock?

First off, I said MOST cheap(er) balls. Not all cheap balls. A topflite rock is in a league of it's own.

Secondly, no, a high HCP'er is NOT going to be able to tell the difference FOR THE MOST PART a premium ball apart from a "regular" ball. A high HCP'er should be/is concerned about hitting it straight and hitting it onto greens in regulation. When/if that same high HCP'er gets better and is more consistent and then NEEDS and CAN USE that spin around the greens, and the "bite" of a premium ball, then yes, he will then be taking advantage of a premium ball that it was designed for. Until that point, no, a high HCP'er DOESN'T need a premium ball. But, like I said, if a high HCP'er can afford it and he doesn't mind basically blowing money, then more power to him....... Let's not kid ourselves though......

I think the biggest problem here is that high cappers end up spending (quite a bit) more money for a ball that ultimately hurts their game. These high-end urethane balls spin like crazy, which is why everyone likes them around the green.

But they also spin like crazy off the driver on the tee box. High cappers are where they are almost without fail because of inconsistencies in their long game. These inconsistencies usually take the form of excessive spin-slices and duck hooks. Premium high spin balls are about the worst off the tee unless you are hitting it straight, or with a controlled draw or fade. Balls I have played that still check up around the green and putt well, but don't punish excessive spin off the tee include: TopFlite Gamer/V2, NXT Tour, Callaway HX Hot Bite, TopFlite D2 Feel/Straight, Srixon AD333, Bridgestone E7.

Yes. What you said is very true and it's a whole other point about high cappers using premium balls.

But, as I said, whatever. If a guy wants to spend the money to use premium balls and he thinks it helps his game, then who is anyone to tell him that's kind of stupid, right? (Even if we're right)

Nobody is talking about a top flite rock. We are talking about the gamers. Definately not a rock.

Personally, I think there is a big difference in saying that a high handicap player can't tell the difference between the balls and saying that a high handicapper doesn't need the balls. I agree that they don't need the premium balls until there game is a bit better, but they can tell a difference. Granted they may not understand that the ball is what is causing the difference, but they can tell something is different

Back to the original point .......The Top Flite Gamer V2

I got 2 1/2 dozen with some Golfsmith gift Cards......they were in a 15 ball package.

I normally use Callaway Tour ix or Pro V1x......but gotta say this ball performed admirably. Good distance off the tee, good control on my approach shots, ball would drop & stop on the greens and responded well to my putter.

My handicap is currently 14......down from a 21 just a couple months ago.

This is a great value, whether you are a high H-capper or not.

Seriously, this ball is a well kept secret and IMO beats most of the balls in the under $30 category. Just go pick up a sleeve and hit some sharp pitches and you can see for yourself.
