I have been having a problem of late.

I will hit a ball right down the middle of the fairway, or semi rough.

I will go to the location and it wont be there.

Friends have also witnessed said "phenomenon"

I get the same thing. My eyesight isn't that great and my usual golf partners are so wild off the tee they can't really be bothered to watch my ball. I actually have better luck with total strangers.

I've nearly lost balls on the short par 3 course before. The thing is, outside of the fringe and green, everything else is thick grass, so sometimes you need to be looking at the right angle to even see it.

Ive actually had a ball stick about 2in into the dirt in the fairway ><. I saw exactly where it landed and I dug it out but I got to thinking how many balls does this happen to?

Had this exact thing happen to me yesterday. I hit a drive and it went slight left just off the fairway and my partner and I drove right to where we thought the ball should be and it was no where to be found....all I could do was scratch my head.....

If you want to be able to find your ball, you should use pink or purple balls. They are at the opposite end of the colour spectrum from green, so they will stand out the most.

I lost two last weekend in the fairway due to early sun and morning dew. It is amazing how even knowing the general vicinity you still can't find the ball.

I think the first key is to really focus and watch the ball land. Pick out several landmarks and make sure you know where you are headed. I struggled with this in the past and once I really focused and made sure I knew where I was headed, I lost less balls.

Second thing- check your distance. Either you're hitting it father or shorter than you think. Unfortunately, it's usually shorter.

my biggest pet peeve on the course... I have no problem taking a pentalty for a shot I hit way off the course and it's clearly lost, but when you see the ball land and it should be there and it's not, I hate taking that pentaly drop.

I hate this. Several times recently I've hit within 10 yards of the green and when I get there my ball isn't there. Once time I think someone swiped my ball but the others I have no explanation. Maybe squirrels are hoarding them.

I will usually pick out a tree to walk towards, and sometimes will try to walk the path the ball took

I can deal with losing balls I shank, but too often I'll hit the ball near or even on the fairway and I end up not being able to find it. I try finding a landmark before heading to my ball thinking I know exactly where it is. Makes it that much more frustrating when I lose it.

I may feel strange asking the man in the shop for purple balls

He might tell me to play with the flesh coloured ones I already have
