The pro at my home course is convinced that a golf ball goes bad after a couple days in water. Thus, he never has the ponds cleared of balls. There must be a million golf balls in this one particular pond right next to the green on a par 3 (I’ve contributed a couple dozen myself).
Is he correct?

I heard that recently myself however I bought a bunch of refurb TP blacks and they seem to play all right. I think the only way to know is to test them with a machine. I think new balls have a drop off after hit a few times but level off in performance. Don't ask me why I came to this conclusion, it is just a hunch.

"My ball is on top of a rock in the hazard, do I get some sort of relief?"

Probably not after a few days but over 6 months they will decrease in performance by 15 or so yards.

I dunno, but i cant see what they wouldn't be fine after a just few days. Provided the ball doesn't have a gash or cut in it.
