Lately (last 5 or so rounds) I have been looking up during short chips (<10 yards) and hitting it off the toe. Is there anything I can do to keep myself from doing this????
A four foot putt to win never gets any less terrifying.

If I ever get happy with myself for finishing 12th or 15th, someone needs to put my clubs away and I'll take up tiddlywinks.

I do this at times too, but when i do it i hit a shank. Its really just a tempo thing, slow down.

Other than screwing one of those hooks that people hang ferns or swag lamps from into your forehead and staking it to the ground, you are simply going to have to train your mind to not let yourself peek. I try to focus on the grass under my ball once it's gone to hold my head down.

Practice hitting chips where you don't look up until well after you have contacted the ball. Head down, hit chip and continue to look at the place where the ball just was...which will most likely be a small divot now. Force yourself to exaggerate the looking down part of the chip for awhile until you no longer lift your head.

Very easy fix, just takes some constant thought to get out of the habit.

Obviously, you look up because you want to see where the ball is going and begin evaluating whether it's a good shot or not (like everyone else). One trick is to play a different "game". Instead of immediately looking up and watching the ball after contact, answer the following questions before looking:

1. How good was the contact? Solid, thin, fat, etc.
2. Did I hit it on line?
3. Did I hit it with the right pace?

Then, look up and see if you were correct. I really like this drill for putting, because then you can guess whether you think it will go in the hole before it even does. But it works for any shot.

you know why you are looking up?? chances are you are swinging up. Swing straight down and see if you look up.You will be the first to look up if you swing striaight down.Of course that is not what you want to do but the truth is somewhere in the middle. As with most things in golf, the answer can be very simple, You need to adjust your angle of attack.

Oh,btw, the ideal plane for both chips and pitches is so simple is almost comical and you see the pros do it and it really is just whatever your backswing plane except you maintain the bow in your wrist.Or for example , Short chips, you go up with the wrist (people usually keep their hands in front bow on the chips but same thing)on backswing, down with the arms or shoulder.

Flop shots, easy. Flat to flat, except your hands are going to hinge sideway because you are so flat.

Same as putting, wait until after you have hit the ball. Also, important on chips to grip it loose to allow wrists to hinge-a little or alot depending on the shot-don't start downswing until you feel the wrists hinge and keep your posture avoid slouching or rounding shoulders.

Experiment with ball position also, forward for high shots that bite, back for lower shots that roll. Mind set should be"everytime I keep my head from moving I hit a good/great shot"
