Thinking I want to get my driver shafted/fitted/gripped for me. I have an old Great Big Bertha and I want to go to the local Golf Masters and hit some balls and see what they say. Is this even a good idea or possible to fit my club by reshafting?

Also what are the odds I get talked into a new driver there im going with like 4/10 lol.

They may tell you to upgrade since the cost of putting a new shaft in would be a good amount and you can get a new one for about 150 these days. Technology has changed quite a bit and it will always help you. Just go in and hit a couple of different models.. Pick 5 or so and go from there.

it really depends on where you go. When I got my driver fitted, the fitting session was free since I bought the shaft itself from the same shop. If you bring your own shaft in, its not unheard for fitting to cost anywhere from 20 to 40 $.

As for reshafting older clubs like the Big Bertha, its very common. But you do have to take into account that older drivers, depending how they are built, can be more difficult to switch out the shaft. Depending on how the hosel is made and various other factors, it can make it more difficult and its really up to the person reshafting the club to decide if he wants to do it or not. But again, original question of fitting, anywhere around $30 give or take is a safe assumption, unless you find a shop that'll do it for free if you buy the shaft from them.

Yes, a lot of times depending on the shaft you get, the cost can be just as high to reshaft than to buy a new driver. I came across a Titleist 905S that I loved hitting but after thinking about the cost of regripping, reshafting, thats roughly $100 or so + the original cost of the used driver which was $70. For $170 + tax, I can potentially consider new drivers such as the TItleist 909D3/D2 which is on sale right now at my current local shop for $230. Sure $60 increase isn't something to just shake off but considering the difference in technology and the Aldila Voodoo shaft that I like comes with the driver already, I'd say its worth it.

Thanks guys im going to swing by there after work and see what they say. I might also consider Dicks because GM is a small local store and that could mean higher $$$ or it might not but ill let you know how it goes. Im actually making good money right now and less than 200$ for a new fitted driver would be OK with me!

Check out the Ping G10's. they recently dropped in price to $179 around the shops here and its a great work horse and one of the easiest drivers i've hit.

aside from that, nike sq dymo, cleveland launcher, various callaway drivers are all pretty low in price <$150, all worth checking out.

In that case, go check out last year's models of drivers (golfro has a few good suggestions). Determine which one you like (feel, look, whatever you're judging on). When you know which you want to buy, ask if they can let you use the launch monitor to determine which (flex, loft) combination works best for you. If they won't, or they want to charge, walk out and go elsewhere -- enough places will let you do this for free, especially since you're going to be buying there, that it's not worth paying for.

Actually got cold feet. The guy tried to sell me on the G15 right away lol didnt really answer the question about getting my own driver fitted. i asked about the g10 kinda seemed to bug him that he wasnt pushing the g15 but he looked up the g10 and said $180 with the launch monitor and custom fitting. Took his card and left to go hit my own driver on the range and I was killing it like the best ive done at the range in a long time... haha now I got to think about this .
