I have about a 30-40 yard gap between my 4 iron and my 5 wood (18*) so I've been contemplating the best way to fill that gap. I just don't know much about Hybrids and the other options.

It'd be nice to have a club that I could turn to on the long, but reachable, par 5s.

Any suggestions or just basic information would be appreciated. Thanks

3 hybrid isn't a bad idea. I used to carry 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 4-PW...since then I've put my 3 iron back in which I'm still not 100% with but it gets the job done.

or you can choke down on the 5 wood which I've done quite often.

I would look into a 3, strong 3, or even a 2 hybrid. It really depends on which club fits the gap you are looking to fill and what you want the club to do for you.

I know it will sound like I am a little fanatical about this but I will say it again. Nickent hybrids are a great club and can be found very cheap. So I would say a way to experiment would be a 21* hybrid. I love mine and once you get used to hitting a hybrid you will wonder how you ever did it before.

Yeah, a nice 21* 3 Hybrid would do very nice. Check out a few models at your local golf store and see if you can test out a few.

I hit my taylor #3 hybird inplace of my 5 wood. It,s much easier to hit out of the rough and very accurate.

+1. Either a 3 wood or a 2 hybrid, depending on which one you can hit better.

A 3-iron is always optional. Some people just don't seem to be able to get to grips with hybrids, and you haven't said if iron-play is a strength or weakness for your current game.

Probably a 3h in the 20-21 range. But you need to swing it first. Off turf & tees. Otherwise it's all a huge guessing game.

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
