I've been using mine for about 6 or 7 weeks and I thinks it's fantastic. Very compact, quick and accurate. As iacas said, you aim at the flag, not the flagstick. Why would you go for a smaller target the same distance away? One hand is all you need and it's out of the bag and back within about 10 seconds. I think it's a great piece of gear.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Had mine for over a year and love it. Like others have said, out and back in about under 10 seconds. I always press and hold the top botton and if I get multiple number it is easy to figure out which is right.

I use the Scan Mode all the time, since I'm not able to hold it still for long enough to time to just do the one click. Instead of wondering if the reading is right with a one click, I get two numbers, one on the background one on the flag. If I'm able to shoot the flag right away, it's fine, I know that with the flag in the reticle, I got the distance. If I'm 200 yards away and the flag is hanging straight down, I usually have to scan for a couple of seconds to know when I hit the flag.

Make sure you adjust the focal point. If it's wrong, the flag will be blurry and harder to shoot.

I don't understand posts like the one above mine. I almost always just use my range finder one-handed and never get the wrong number. Why do you aim at the flagstick? Aim at the flag...

I do aim at the flag, my hand is steady. Flag, stick, person on green - result is the same. Unreliable compared to the 1500. Glad it's working for you folks. Unless there's some setting I don't know about that is wrong it's just an inferior product. What's not to understand? I compared it to my 1500 in identical environments and the 1500 finds the distance more reliably.

Quick question- do these rangefinders magnify?

Yes, the GX1 and GX2 magnify 6x.

Using this method, I can't imagine how it could be that difficult.

1: Get the flag inside the reticle 2: Press and hold the button 3: Hover over the flag If the distance seems odd, hover it a bit longer to see if you picked up the background instead. You could even move it off the flag and move it directly to the background to verify if the distance you get is really the background and not the flag. Have you adjusted the focal point? If it is too far away or too close, it can make things harder. Mine is pretty much set at best focus around 130 yards.

Yes, it's hard for me to believe myself!

1: Get the flag inside the reticle

Easily done.

2: Press and hold the button

Easily done.

3: Hover over the flag

Easily done.

If the distance seems odd, hover it a bit longer to see if you picked up the background instead. You could even move it off the flag and move it directly to the background to verify if the distance you get is really the background and not the flag.

Yes, I have to do all that to get an accurate reading and then check it against reality (markers, eyeballing). It often takes a while to get the flag read doing this over and over.

Have you adjusted the focal point? If it is too far away or too close, it can make things harder. Mine is pretty much set at best focus around 130 yards.

I do adjust the focal point and it hasn't seemed to make any difference.

Meanwhile, I don't have to go through all those gyrations with my Bushnell, which is what the point of the post was. I didn't say the GX1 could not ultimately get an accurate reading, just that it's more difficult and the first reading is often innacurate. The Bushnell is truly point and shoot and shoot.

Fat Slice, it just sounds like you have a misaligned unit or something. My Leupolds have all been and continue to be great. My wife uses the GX-1 and I've been using and testing the GX-4. You seem to have gotten a bad unit. It's okay - it happens. I had a Bushnell go bad after a few years - like the laser was pointing 15 degrees off from where it used to be pointed. Had to send it in for service.
