I'm not sure how this is different from using Target's "Market Pantry" sports drink mix. But, hey, free sample.

I'm looking to pick some up. Going to try to find it cheaper than $48 for 36. That's steep.

There's a reason a lot of pros drink it. Maybe that reason is marketing. Maybe it's popularity. Maybe it's the reason anyone buys a Trion:Z. Maybe it's because it works.

Just don't expect it to ENERGIZE your round. I've tried it and don't think I'll be going back for more. Orange Gatorade gets the job done.

I usually drink a Gatorade during my round. But has anyone tried this:

You don't need to drink Gatorade (a Pepsi product) or supplements or anything else. They are essentially salty softdrinks. Water and a decent diest are all you need.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yeah. I was shocked when I found out Gatorade has as much HFCS as a Coke or Pepsi. I swear it didn't used to be that way (a long time ago).

Anyway, water or AV is fine. AV at least purports to have "stuff" in it that isn't HFCS and that can replenish your energy. If water was all we needed, we wouldn't eat food. I've not heard anyone counter the science that AV supposedly has (I haven't been to that section of their site - I just know they claim to have science behind their products). As a guy with a medicinal chemistry degree I tend to get sucked into those things, so I need to block off four hours or so before I visit that part of their site.

HFCS?? Out of curiosity, what's that?

Do you happen to know where the peer-reviewed publications that they (the AV guys) undoubtedly undertook to substantiate their stuff are published? In general, this sort of stuff is a bit like the "This driver will give you 20 yards on your current driver....". Take a bottle of water and some dextrose tablets with you when you play. Maybe a bit of salt if it's very hot. Done. If that's not enough, try this quote from their web site:

Source: http://focuszonesample.com/science.php FOCUS ZONE provides 2,400mg of amino acids — energy in its purest form.

Ummm. No. AAs are not energy in its purest form (biochemically); that would be, arguably, glucose (dextrose).

Source: http://focuszonesample.com/science.php Amino acids block tryptophan from producing excessive amounts of serotonin in the brain. While small amounts of serotonin can be beneficial, excessive levels make you feel tired and sleepy and can affect your ability to concentrate.

I'd really like to see the published evidence for this as well. Even assuming this is actually the case, do you really want to mess with serotonin production in your head??? I like the small print on the web site as well:

Source: http://focuszonesample.com/index.php *These statements have not been evaluated by the food and drug administration.

Hmmm....

High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I realize that. Which is why I like to read about it - it's good for a few laughs. Like the AAs = energy statement.

I'd

Why not? Drug addicts do it all the time!!!

I like gatorade because it has the essential electrolytes that leak out of the body when you sweat. These electrolytes include potassium, chloride and sodium, and they keep you hydrated as well as contributing to your muscle's abilities to function correctly. The HFCS is in the form of glucose and fructose which is carbohydrates and gives you energy fast when you need it during exercise.

You can get electrolytes from Electrolyte Water, which they have at Trader Joe's, or from Brawdo. The rest you can get from miscellaneous snacks that are easy to carry.

I only drink water on the course. Never had a problem feeling tired or light headed. When I'm doing any sort of physical activity the only thing I want to drink is water. I will drink other stuff afterwards for recovery (like chocolate milk) if it's particularily strenuous.
