What do you do when you're working on rythm and tempo? Any particular drills? I think some of my worst shots come from getting too jerky rather than smooth and flowing.

Sorry about the late response. When you are smooth & flowing that is the same as rhythm and tempo. Basically I try to slow things down and pause at the top of my swing just a bit. I've found when I frist go to the range I pull out my 5i, put my feet together and hit balls. Once that feels nice & smooth I'll try to hit the ball a little harder, but staying in balance all the way thru as full a swing as I can do. Once that feels good I'll get my feet a little under shoulder width. Do more swings a little harder, staying in balance all the way thru the swing. This doesn't have to be done with a 5i; use the iron you are most comfortable with. The alignment sticks are just glorified shafts. I just point the stick in the direction I want the ball to go and use it for reference as I watch the ball flight. I put the stick between me and the ball. It is just for alignment purposes.

Try swinging with your eyes closed. Your swing smooths out or you'll fall over.

Discipline your mind. Tell yourself that you're going to make a smooth and flowing swing, then do it.

I highly suggest talking to the club pro about getting a range pass. I don't worry about spraying balls left, right or if I look like a total hack when I am working on my swing. I can work on rhythm, tempo, and pretty much anything if you have more ball than you can hit. I spent about two hours taking a quarter swing to work on delaying my release while pushing and slicing the hell out of the ball. It might surprise you how cheap it might be to do something like that, $250 a year for me.
