The Carolina Trail courses, 7 courses,  in the Charlotte area have a program called Bogies to Birdies. I pay $39.95 per month to get unlimited range balls at my "home" course. I basically picked the closest one to my house. When I want to play on the course I only pay cart fee ($18) after 12pm in the winter at 6 of the courses and reduced cart fee ($10) after 3pm. Before 12, it's full rate. When I play before 12 I can always find deals online somewhere. I usually come out to the good each month. I can add my son to the program for an additional $19.95 but he doesn't want to play when it's cold outside.

So counting that $40 and with other courses I play each weekend I would guess I spend about $250 per month on average.

I think I might try to curb spending this year. I already bought a membership and one preservation pass. A pair of Adidas golf shoes and 3 iron off of ebay at the end of 2012. The only thing I need that is major is possibly a new golf bag.

I know I will still be paying for numerous green fees here and there but I think I have all the stuff I need....maybe....

I know everyone has different income levels and discretionary income.  One of the barriers to getting better at the game is having the cash to invest to be able to play and practice regularly.  At least, that is one of mine.

How much do you spend on golf, meaning green fees, memberships, equipment, clothes, driving range, balls, etc...(excluding  beer, haha)?

I have never been able to play more than a couple of times a year in charity tournaments.  I took five years off.  Recently, I picked it up  because I got married again and gained priveleges at the country club where we live.  So, I don't pay anything for fees and there is a practice range there.  I use found balls and borrowed clubs.  So, I have bought some shorts and shirts and a couple of golf gloves.  So far I would say I have spent about $100 and played about 15 rounds this year.  So, I found a really cheap way to enter the game again.  If it wasn't, I don't think I could play.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
