Hi guys,

I am going ijn to GolfTown this Saturday to have my swing checked and am looking at getting a stiffer shaft on my driver....and possibly a heavier one.

I don't know a hell of a lot about all the numbers, so can anyone guide me on what I should look out for so i don;t get jipped into buying a shaft that is completely wrong/expensive?

My driver was only $80 ( great deal, I love this driver ) so I don't wanna have to go back in 2 weeks to get another shaft.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

If you have a SS of 100mph+ be looking at some stiff shafts.

Don´t try to swing 110 percent on the simulator. You probably won´t be swinging like that on the course

Ok cool, so maybe X-Stiff? Last time I was in I was swinging anywhere from 112-117

Some words of advice about getting fit for a driver:

- Swing the same way you swing your driver on the course. Go through your same pre-shot routine, and don't try to hit the longest drive of you life.
- Wear your typical golf attire (shirt, shoes, shorts/pants, etc.), and go through the same warmup routine you'd go through on the course if at all possible (maybe go to the range for a little bit before you go to the golf shop).
- Bring your old driver with you so you can do a baseline comparison with the driver shafts they are fitting you to. The numbers on the launch monitor are usually never the same as real-world distances, so you'll want to have something to compare them to.
- If you are uncomfortable with what your club fitter is doing or telling you, don't be shy to let him/her know. At the end of the day, you are the one buying the club so you have to have your own confidence in it.
- Don't get too bogged down in the numbers and instead hit what feels right.

Ok cool

How long will it take to replace it? Same day or will I be without a driver for a few days?

for me it took over night. depends on how busy the shop is.

as for msd3075's advice of not getting bogged down in numbers, I disagree. When fitting for a new shaft, thats the purpose of it, is to look at the numbers.
Every number is important if you want to get the optimal shaft for your swing. launch angle, swing speed, back spin, side spin, etc etc. Take your driver in and hit a bunch of balls and tell them what you are looking for out of your driver (what kind of trajectory, etc) and they'll usually set you up with a shaft that they feel fit.

The numbers are important, but only to a certain extent. As long as you are within the "window" of specs that fit your swing-type, that's all you can ask for.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
