Ok, I'm a 25 year old guy who just got his ass back in community college, only to find there are no golf programs available. I would really like to find some sort of league to play/practice with, but I don't want to be "the young punk" out there. I have yet to see any leagues with a core group of young people in my area. I'm fairly new to the game (I learned early last summer) but I can hit the ball fairly well to where I wouldn't hold too many people up. Any suggestions for a young guy looking for a new batch of folks to golf with?

It's too bad you aren't in South Florida. I'm pretty much in the same boat. 25 year old teacher and I really don't have any buddies that golf.

I've got a couple golf buddies, but they are either terrible players, or totally flakey. I tend to play better around people who play on a higher level than myself.

im 23 and i play in a league thats not like all younger guys or anything but a lot of the people are pretty decent and pretty cool... i was in a league for a few years a while back at i different course tho that was mostly old guy, many who had been members for 30, 40, or 50 plus years..those ppl were mostly really boring.. but it also had a few more loud, fun, drunk younger guys who were terrible golfers...they were at least fun to play.

so i guess my point is that every league is different and you just need to find one you like...i just dont know of any that would be for ppl that are like 30 and under or anything

That looks like it would be up my alley, but they operate out of Portland, OR. That's just a hell of a drive for me.

I am in a similar position . . there are a couple of leagues in my area and lots of guys to play with but, for some reason, my buddies don't golf and my "golf buddies" - ie - guys I know from the course - are all 20-30 years older than me (I'm 36).

It's actually not a problem for me - I notice that I chat a lot with some playing partners and not as much with others but I don't really think it effects my playing or having a good time at all. I go to the course solo 4-5 nights a week. I could call somebody up to play but I'd rather just hook-up with whoever's on the tee (or, a lot of times, I tee off by myself but join the first group I catch up to).

Same for me, I'm the only yuppie in my graduating class (that I talked to). Now 2 of my best friends don't have jobs or go to school, and the other shoots in the 120s... ouch

Talk to the club pros or whoever else works at your local courses and tell them your situation. They'll be able to hook you up with like minded golfers. Be open to golfers of all ages, I'm 32 and I've played golf with some older retired golfers as well as 18 yr olds and I've always had a lot of fun out there.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
