Anyways, I went to get a lesson to help learn some strategies to fix my slice on my driver (the most erratic part of my game) the lady said pretty much everything about my swing was ok minus the over swinging occasionally (I'll admit I do this sometimes..) and not "releasing the club". So she made me work an hour on releasing the club and it became a huge pain. She said I was releasing it but a little bit too late. Anyways, I go to the range today and I'm like man, this just doesn't seem correct to me. So I figured I might have a swing path issue that she didn't notice or tell me about. I began swinging on a shallower or "flatter" plane and sure enough my slice went away. 15 out of 15 no slice. I realized that I had been releasing it I just had too inside of a swing and it was creating a slice. Basically, I'm kind of ranting because I paid 65/hr (1hr) to fix something I should have easily been able to fix myself.. Ugh, anyone else have an experience like this? She was highly recommended by a lot of people so I figured it would be a good experience, which I can say it wasn't a bad experience but I feel like I could've done all of this without lessons...

By swinging "flatter" you may have stumbled upon a swing thought to get your hands deeper on your back swing, perhaps changing the plane you're delivering the club on. This doesn't necessarily mean that the advise of your pro was incorrect.

True I understand what you're saying, I didn't mean for this post to be she was wrong blah blah blah, but more of how I ended up stumbling upon swing plane might be a more direct result of slicing than releasing a club.

I can hit some slices too at some days, working at the range I just lower my tempo and suddenly it is gone.... it easy to understand (by ballflight) what happens when I boost up the speed, coming over the top with at best a path straight trough the ball ...... I really have to work on plane.

I do book a lesson regularly (uhh once a every two months orso), but when I do book a lesson I know exactly what I want ...... if you go to a pro and say you want to cure a slice, I am pretty sure the pro thinks, we all want to cure a slice ..... it might take several steps to cure the slice and it makes no sense to even try to combine all steps in one lesson ...... it just doesn't work when you have, to turn more, release the club, come from the inside, bigger lag, strengthen your grip, and all of that in one lesson.....

Overhere it is common to take half hour lessons (at about $30-$35) ..... and I personally think after 15-20 minutes you have enough to work on for the next few weeks, it makes little sense to have a full hour, because you might to much to work with and you might get too tired of hitting all that balls.....

Besides that it might well be that your shaft isn't helping you to get rid of the slice, if it is too stiff for you......

I wish I could find lessons at $30 a half hour. I can't seem to find anyone around here less then $50.

But yeah I agree an hour is overkill. I went to a clinic and the guy spent a total of about 5 minutes with me personally and that little bit of time really helped. He gave me three things to work on and I was able to practice them at the driving range until I got them down pretty good.
