so I have been struggling to get out of a bit of a slump lately
had a hard time breaking 80, my drives were erratic, and putting was disgusting
well i broke through late last week and put up a couple rounds in the high 70's
ok, now to get low.....

im walking off the course Friday saying good bye to everyone for the weekend and they all look at me like i am wearing my gitch on top of my shorts
what......?????

(them)"Um dude, the Club Cmapionship is this weekend...".......
(me) "it is...no its in 2 weeks!"
(them) "no its tomorrow and you tee off at 8:30"
(me) "damn.....ok then...."

I have company in town so golfing in this is gonna be tough
but i have a very understading family and wife, so i was abel to sneak it in

Heres the a break down of the tourney:

Day One Qualifying:
-flighted me in the Championship flight based on current index
-start off on hole one slicing my drive onto number nine w no look at my approach shot...this is gonna be an interesting round..
-to boot, I am golfing w a guy who makes regular appearances on the Canadian tour at a + 3.2 index
-it was +18º C and 30+ km/hr winds (it hasnt stopped blowing here in 4 days)

Highlights:
-really none.....I couldnt get off the tee, 3 putted 3 times etc..
-only thing that comes to mind - hole 10 i couldnt find my drive in the rough so i had to walk back
-hit my second in the exact same spot and found it no probs
-im now out 225 yds on a par 5 and flush a 4i to the fringe, chip it to 6 feet and make the put - NICE BIRD!!!!! ...oh wait......bogey....damn
-probably the best bogey i have ever made in my life

Lowlights:
-I fought a 30 handicap slice all day, no idea what was up couldnt figure it out
-3 putted my a$$ off all day - they double cut and rolled the greens and it killed me
-I have never had sooo many slippery sidehill or downhill putts in my life
-i started not going at pins, becasue of these putts. I left everything below the hole and putted up hill

Final Score - 81

Day 2: Final Day
-didnt make the cmapionship flight, but made the last spot in the 1st flight (apparantly i wasnt the only one who struggled yesterday)
-low score of the day yesterday was 74. I missed the C flight by 2 strokes
-tried to get on the range in the am, but traffiuc held me up and i almost missed my tee time
-perfect golf day, ZERO wind, overcast and 15º C
-coure was tipped out today and pins were friggen tough

Highlights:
-i got up and down 90% of the time - 9 of 10 times (yes, only 8 GIR's today)
-i grinded all day long just to make par
-i made a shot out of the woods that Mr. Woods himself would be proud of (4 foot window and 195 yds to the green ..... i hit the fringe w a low, hooking stinger...quite amazing - PAR). Huge gamble, but it paid off
-my wedges were dialed in hard....but i couldnt convert any putts today

Lowlights:
-still fighting a HUGE 60+ yard slice...man oh man...time for a check up w my pro this week
-putting, putting, putting, putting - 3 3 putts again

Final Score - 76

So.....I ended up winning my flight, but no where near the low for the day
HE (the Canadian tour guy) came out and shot 66..SICK
just couldngt get my head in it on qualifying day
if i could have got off the tee yesterday, I could have been par or better
most approach shots were out of the THICK, DEEP rough or around a tree

next weekend is our Open tourney
3 day tourney, stroke play and over 140 golfers
i need some practice in this week and a tune up

stay tuned......

Very interested to hear how you do. I too for some reason cannot play remotely close to my handicap when there is money on the line. I can play in our $25 Sunday Morning "game" and shoot 88 (37 putts), then go out immediately after and shoot 80 (28 putts). IDK what it is. Thank god I shot an 88 which net me to a 73, and I won in the random team drawing with a guy who shot even. I joke around saying one day I'm going to fire an average afternoon round and beat everyone by 7...but it just hasn't happened yet.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I tend to play better in tournament golf because I focus more. The key is to have a routine and stick to it. I get to the course at least an hour early, get ready, hit balls for 30 minutes, putt for 10, a few sand shots and then chips and one last drive before heading to the tee.

is the dude a professional on the canadian tour? or a monday qualifier amateur? If he's a professional, he shouldn't be playing in your club championship. I'm a CPGA pro, and cannot play in the Club Championship at the club I'm a member at (not where I work...don't wanna go to work on my off time..)

doesnt have "pro" status in any way and has had some exemptions from winning certain tournaments well, day one practice under my belt made some great progress w the big stick today big slice is gone, couple quick adjustments and a "duh" moment on the range, things are lookin mint did some nice lag putting today and felt good about it. even drained a few 20+ footers tomorrow is 18 hole round and a quick tune up w my pro

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
    • Day 7- Went to the range and hit a bucket. Also did some chipping and putting.
