SAM, harder balls don't necessarily go farther - they have a higher ball speed, though. But if they don't have enough spin they can go shorter than a softer ball that is slightly slower but has more optimal spin and/or launch angle.

Yes, forgot that spin is a factor. Good call.

They have to play the same make of ball, eg, they can't switch from a Pro V1 to a Bridgestone e6 between holes 6 and 7, but the actual physical ball they use can be changed.

Golf Ball hitting steel at 150 mph

This is far from the truth as others have said. I have a swing speed of 105 mph measured using Trackman (with my driver that is) and I'm 16. My golfing buddy who's seventeen is around 108 mph. I've played with a 55 year old who was just over 100 mph. Your entire post is incredibly wrong.

its like the OP just did a ball fitting or something...

everything he wrote is pretty much exactly what the dudes at the Bridgestone ball fitting said to me.

theres no way the ball compresses that much, it would never get back to its original shape, looks neat though. Im sure the ball compresses some with the fastest swing speeds but never that much unless it wasnt a real ball. I really dont think it matters that much what kind of ball you use, solid contact always makes the ball go farther and the right trajectory as well gets optimum distance or in other words your swing determines how far the ball goes not what kind of ball you use.

That looks really fake to me. Almost like an algorithm for a water droplet movement was imposed on an image of a golf ball, especially after the ball leaves the club face, its just to elastic looking.

Really? I thoght they had to play the ball they started the round with that is unless the ball is lost

They can't change balls on the hole. They can change in between holes. And it also has to be the same type.

I'm sure you know this, but they can take their ball out of play and replace it if it's damaged.

That is completely fake. It looks cool, sure. But with that much compression the ball would just shatter. That has to be a rubberized ball or something of that sort.

I have a pro v1 in my hand right now and there is no way the ball compresses that much. I just can't see the cover or the solid material inside withstanding that kind of flex.

Well, golf balls are made from rubber. Golf balls are nothing more than rubber balls, but hard ones. So are bowling balls, though, and many clarinets, oboes, and bassoons, all made from rubber. Rubber can come in so many forms, and in so many hardnesses, it's hard to really lump it all into one category.

If you drop a golf ball on a hard surface why do you think they bounce so high? They flex and then pop back into shape just like a rubber bouncy ball.

I know a golf ball compresses but even a rubber bouncy ball doesn't flatten like that. We need that slow motion show from the discovery channel.

there are a couple videos related to some of these on youtube where a guy puts a golf ball in a press. Basically, by the time they get close to the shape the ball from the first video gets to, they have exploded.
