On two holes yesterday:

1. Par 4, straight away........hit a fair tee shot.....screwed up my next two and lay 20 feet off the front edge of the green. Used a 7 iron and chipped up on the green and into the hole for a par.

2. Par 4, slight dog leg left with a fairly long shot over a lake to a green way below.......I hit an errant drive into some woods to the right and had to chip out into the fair way. I then had a 160 yds accross the lake to the green. I took a 6 iron and hit the best shot I hit all day.....slight fade to 6 ft. from the flag and canned it for a par.

So the thing is, don't ever give up on a hole or a long chip or long putt for par. It happens and when your trying to do something it isn't all just luck.

At the Newport Cup, the second round of the first day, I was pissed and playing horribly. I hit a shot into the water right of the fairway at the 380-yard 16th hole. I dropped well back where I crossed the hazard and put a hybrid on the back fringe. I holed the 50-foot triple-breaking putt for a par.

I remember two times when I've made par literally after rolling the ball off the tee 30-40 yards.

That was a heck of a putt! It really lifts your spirit when you can one like that and especially if it's for a birdie or eagle!
