So after hitting a bunch of other drivers for a few rounds and what not i've decided i can't stand the shaft that's on my driver
the question is
should i cut it down to 44 or replace it with something else?

My Clubs:
Ping I3 + blade 3-pw
9.5 09 Burner with prolaunch red
Nickent 4dx driver
Taylormade Z tp 52, 56, 60

That sort of depends on what you don't like about it. If you feel it's, say, too long -- then cutting it down will help. If you feel it's, say, too stiff -- then cutting it down will not help.

Stretch.

What don't you like about the shaft?

If you don't like it then change it to one of the shafts that you liked...

Long, whippy, feels like a pumpkin on the end of a bamboo stick.
probably launches too high
I dont think its my swing so much since i hit my irons great and other drivers perfectly fine
Just with mine its so long my sweet spot hitting is sporadic

I would get a shaft fitting before I would cut it down. Go to a place that has a launch monitor. They will be able to give you exact statistics of how your hitting the ball. I was using a stock shaft in my Nike and the ball was really high on well struck hits. I decided to have a launch monitor session at my golf shop and they had me try different clubs and different shafts. I was tested on the Callaway fitting system since they could switch shafts very fast. I bought the shaft that had the best angles, mph, etc. It was the ProLaunch Red. I came back after it was installed in the Nike and I actually had better numbers than the Callaway. I was very happy as I love the look of the Nike driver.

I have the 09 Burner and went through the exact same thing. Had it cut down, still hated it, and eventually just replaced the shaft.

get fitted and replace the shaft with something more fitted to you. if your trajectory is high, then it could be a lot of different reasons. get fitted.

The shaft they put in Burners is a lightweight noodle, you'd be well served to pickup an aftermarket shaft.

ALright, i'm gonna go get a lesson then get fit
cause right if i swing remotely hard it launches stupidly high and who knows where its goin after that
Even if i tee down it shoots the ball straight up

there's a nice Golfsmith in Tualatin which is about 20 minutes south of Portland. I believe there are a couple Golf Galaxys as well. Or you can goto pretty much any course pro shops and I believe they have professionals as well as guys who do fitting. For shaft selection sake, the Golfsmith is Tualatin is awesome.

Also, when you get a chance, play Langdon Farms. Rated one of the best in OR, affordable and a fun course to play.

Thanks,

depends on the shaft really. some great shafts go as low as 30-40$, most will be anywhere from 60-100.

I have a ProLaunch Red shaft on my Ping G10 which was on sale for $30.

my home course growing up. Haven't played Langdon Farms in years but I have this odd glamorized idea of the days I used to play at Langdon.

20 bucks haha
So what should i know before going into a fitting? like should i go above 65 gs?
I just find some people dont help you as much as others and i want to know if someone is just throwing me anything
Cause when i got this driver i asked if i could be properly fit to a shaft too and he said it would be fine... but its not fine

You need to know your launch stats to know what you are shopping for. I'd see a pro 1st, to make sure you aren't coming into the ball too steeply. From the sound of your previous posts in this thread, it may be part shaft and part swing.

like delav said, both swing and shaft will effect your ball flight. When you get to the fitting, they'll typically have you take your driver and start swinging so they can get a good basis on what numbers they're looking at including swing speed, ball speed, launch angle, back spin, side spin, etc etc etc.

From there, they'll typically suggest some variations of numbers that they think will benefit your driver flight. So if you personally were looking for a ball flight that is lower and more penetrating, they'll give you suggestions on what shafts to look at, etc. I believe a lot of these bigger places will have drivers with various shafts already on so you can try out different shafts as well. but also like delav said, in order for your driver fitting to be successful, you need to have a sound swing to measure by. What good is a fitting if you have swing flaws that'll change everything a month from now.
