So i had one of those days where the stars just don't align...and just about everything in my game suffers.

My drives were all over the place. Massive hooks on certain holes and some ugly slices on other. Ended up putting my driver down after the front 9 and just teeing off with my 3 wood but even then, accuracy suffered quite a bit.

My irons were less than stellar. Had to really scramble around the greens for par on most holes but I just couldn't get the ball on the green! Similar to my driver, I was hitting some hooks, pushing some balls to the right...all over the place.

My putts...this is where it barely saved me but I ended up with 4 3-putts for the round. Missed 2 perfect birdie chances within 15ft, missed 1 great eagle chance within 10-12 ft...generally putted terribly. I've been practicing my putts quite a bit but it seems in turn, I've started thinking too much about my putts and overreading the lines quite a bit.

Maybe my mind just wasn't focused or maybe my swing was just off...who knows...but yeah...had one of those rounds ended up shooting 82...just 2 weeks after the best round of the season with 71 on a par 71.

Time to reset my brain, spend some time at the range and putting green, and try again next week.

I have been fighting those days all too frequently lately. I am chalking it up to just being in a funk right now. We will see...

Yeah I wanted to finish the summer season strong and for the msot part, I've been playing very well. I've been trying to get my handicap down...but man yesterday was just discouraging. I walked away from that course feeling very defeated.

Guess thats what keeps drawing us to this sport though.

man i just came out of one of those....it will pass

i changed a few things that has helped me
i stopped taking practice swings on putts lately
i dont practice w practice swings, why do i need them on the greens????

yesterday i was fighting a pull/hook for some reason
by hole 14 i had it figured out..little to late

here my scores for the week:

Thurs-71 (par 71)
Friday-72 (par 71)
Sat-54 (par 54) - small par 3 track, nice to work on the short game...and i hit 17/18 GIR's!
Sunday-78 (par 71)....funny how i play 54 holes at 1 over par and then lash out a 78

meh..this game is funny.......

good call on not taking a practice putt. I just need to stand over the ball and commit to the putt.

Heres my problem. I read the line and know exactly where to putt. I stand over the ball and then think "oh crap, i think the ball might break more" and instead of taking a step back and looking at my line again, I turned my wrist a little and push it. Of course my original line was right...so I just need to trust my instinct and commit to the putt. Not sure exactly what happened yesterday but damn, I just couldn't sink a damn putt

commit to a line, step up, all you need to think about is seeing the ball hit the back of the hole and putt

try it for a round or two.....it may help you get all other thoughts out of your head since i switched to no practice putt, i have been putting really good the day i shot my best round ever (66) i took zero practice putts and had 11...YES 11...putts on the back nine havent 3 putted in a round since

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
