Just stumbled on this and I'm sure its a major flaw. No idea how long I've had it. During my backswing, my head raises in elevation. I'm sure its caused by an incorrect rotation of the shoulders, with the left shoulder pushing my head up. My playing partner says it comes up a lot and then drops during my downswing.

We worked on this the other day, with him holding a shaft on top of my head and literally keeping me from raising it. First, it felt very awkward, almost like i was bending over farther than address. But what I quickly noticed was that I was making better contact with the ball and even taking divots 2-3 inches in front of the ball.

Before I make too much of this, wanted to ensure this is important within the swing. So is a rising head bad? Btw, a recent video of Ricky Fowler showed his head to maintain the same elevation through his swing (although it did back away from the ball considerably). Thanks-

I once heard if you are gripping too tightly it connected to a long muscle up your arm and shoulder and may cause you to lift your head. Try loosening up your grip and see if that helps.

instead of focusing on your head, focus on your spine angle.

next time at the range, focus on rotating around that spine angle and maintaining that angle throughout your swing, holding it there for the finish/pose.

For me raising my head was pretty common at first.I think it comes from trying to kill the ball/ swinging too hard.Anyways when your head moves up your shoulds and back do a little sometimes causing you to hit it fat or hit tops. Just train yourself not to do it.
