While watching the Chrysler Championship today on the 18th hole did anyone else notice Byrd's chip up to the green? They showed a shot of his SW, with a blue sharpie going vertically using it as an alignment aid.

Pretty decent I idea if you ask me.

I missed that one. You mean he drew a line down the face of his wedge with a sharpie? Interesting idea.

And if so, an idea I'm not sure is legal. One could argue that he's applied a foreign substance to the face of his club.

Its not going to break my heart if it is against the rules of golf because its easy enough for me to line up my chips without a line.

Seems odd that a Tour pro would do something like that if it was in fact illegal. I wonder if he consulted with a rules official prior to putting that wedge in play.

Just got this response from the USGA, it took about three weeks...

Dear Mr. DBake, Placing an alignment mark of the clubface, with a Sharpie or similar marker or by lightly inscribing, is permitted. Of course, if the mark comes off during the round, the player must be very careful if they attempt to replenish it......it must be done as nearly as possible to its original position (the club can be continued to be used without the mark), otherwise the player may be considered to have changed the playing characteristics of the club.       Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done!       Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
