So I just got a call from dicks sporting goods, telling me my club has been there for me to pick up for awhile and if I want it to come get it. They were like "Im not sure if you returned it to us but its just sitting here and if you want it come get it" . lol I actually returned the club to them because the wrong shaft was on it (its a mizuno mp-t 11). Now Im not going to go pick it up or anything, but what would you guys do. Maybe I should call them and be like yea it had the wrong shaft, could I come get it anyway?, lol

Call them back and tell them I returned the club. This seems easy.

yea maybe I should be like, yea they put the wrong shaft on it but could I come get it anyway. You never know. You didnt hear the message, he made it sound like it was just sitting in the back and he didnt really care what happened with it. he was like "I dont really care what happens with it, but if you want it come get it" . I was like what , lol

I'm really confused on what the problem is here. If you got you're money back for the return and they are still offering it to you, take it. If you didn't get your money back yet and it has the wrong shaft, get your money back and order one with the right shaft. This seems easy.

yea its the first situation. I got my money back for it a month ago and they are calling me because its just sitting there asking me if I want it to come get it. I mean I dont know what they are going to do with a special order after such a long time. They dont sell mizuno products

Tell them that it belongs to them, as they've returned your money to you.

More clearly...

It doesn't, like, seem like ethical to take something that like, you didn't pay for. lol

I'd go pick it up and sell it :) Spend the cash on a range membership or something golf related :)

I would let them know what happened. Theft by deception is theft nonetheless.

They said they don't care what happens to it. Obviously, they don't care too much about their finances if they can't even keep track of who returned an item or not.

I wasnt going to go and deceive them by any means. i was just curious as if they were just going to give it to me because it was a special order.

If you owned a golf shop, would you want your customers thinking this way about you or your employees? Just because a kid making $8/hr doesn't care doesn't mean it won't hurt the store.

Obviously, it's not the "right" thing to do, but they are offering it to you.

this is dicks sporting goods, a mutli million dollar nationwide franchise, not a little golf shop niche on the corner. None the less you are right about taking it without telling them you returned it. Now if they want to just give it to me because they nothing better for it, I'l take it without any guilt

And if the kid gives it away without accounting for sale of it, he'll likely be fired. It's his own damn fault. But now that I think about it, I care more about the kid than the golf store. I wouldn't want him getting fired for being a moron, although he would deserve it.

Have you been honest with the shop? Do they know you returned it? Did you specifically tell them that it's their property and not yours?

Sounds like an employee has made a mistake, and you should let him know. As said above, stealing is stealing... this smells a lot like theft by deceit.

The reason why I made the thread is because 1. the kid on the phone basically sounded like he wanted to give it to me 2. its a special order; dicks doesnt sell mizuno and Im sure they cant send back a club months down the line for money back

Have you been honest with the shop? Do they know you returned it? Did you specifically tell them that it's their property and not yours?

How is it theft by deceit if I tell them I returned it but they give it to me anyway ?
