So I cut my TM R7 Quad driver down about a half an inch and I havent noticed a damn thing any different. I knew it wouldn't be a miracle but thought it might help straighten out my ball flight some. It didn't. MAYBE I haven't hit as many off the toe as I was but no big difference. And yeah I didn it myself. I dont care if a took 2.7685 grams of weight out of it. That's all B.S. You can' feel the difference in half an inch or graphite. I can't anyway.

Some people do feel the difference when they cut down the shaft. Some don't.

Shorter shaft will definitely help with your control, providing that you have somewhat of a consistent swing.

Thanks Valleygolfer, but no. It didnt help me at all I dont think. I wish it did. I mean I know my swing needs work but I know the shafts nowadays are getting too long too.

What is your ball flight doing?

I was in the same boat as you Joey. I cut mine down an inch and still had issues with hitting the driver. I have since then worked out my kinks in the swing and it feels a lot better. I feel like I am swinging a club instead of a hockey stick.

I had it sorted out for a while but I've been slicing again. I think I have an idea why. I was practicing in the mirror and I noticed that i open my forward shoulder WAY too early. I need to work on lifting it up and not spinning it open more.

Joey, a shorter shaft isn't going to make that slice go away. I think you had some false hopes. A shorter shaft makes hitting the sweet spot much easier. If you hook/slice due to hitting off the toe/heel then a shorter shaft definitely will help. Good luck!

Try a pause at the top of your backswing, I have be doing this for a while and just saw the same tip from Breed and Mahon. Then work on correct mechanics through the swing. Like starting with the hips, tucking your right arm and etc. It also helped me to slightly shorten my backswing.

I started slicing off the tee last year (first time I have ever developed a slice). I bought a new driver that was suppose to help. I read all the tips and drills, etc. Nothing worked. I took one 30 minute lesson so my exact swing flaw could be identified and poof - slice is gone. Take a quick lesson. The slice is the most common swing flaw and, many times, the easiest swing flaw to fix.

What I Play:

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
