Shaft length, compact head. I hit my 19* about 10 yards less than my 5 wood, but it is much more versatile.

Should i ditch the 5 wood and put another wedge in my bag?

It works for me. Right now the only funky gap in my bag is between my hybrid and my 4 iron.

If you have the luxury to be able to game them both at the same time, do so and find out which you need more while your out there.

You could also just go with a driver, 4 wood and 19* hybrid. That works pretty well.

Stretch.

Personally, I use a 3h over a 5w... I use to carry a 5w but I find the hybrid gives me more options.... still can hit it off the tee but is easer out of the rough. It's also a bit easier for me to control then a 5w so whatever distance I do loose, I make up in consistency.

Good deal on those. Peter Griffin HC too...frickin' sweet.

I don't know about the loft designations. Seems like companies pull loft numbers out of the air sometimes.

The 5wd has a longer shaft & is meant to be hit with a flatter swing. The hybrid, shorter shaft, not as flat, & way more versatile. Good buy.

The hybrid might be a half inch shorter as well? Maybe an inch. This accounts for some of the loss of distance as well. I ditched the 3 wood for a hybrid and have never looked back. My bag is a bit crazy, admittedly. Driver - 18* hybrid - 2 iron through wedge - Gap - 56* - flatstick. I get looks sometimes when you see only a driver and a hybrid cover in there, and all the irons chattering and talking to each other.

I just bought the 09 TM 3 rescue 19* loft

A hybrid/rescue is much easier to hit than a wood, especially from the rough. I also find hybrids/rescues much more versatile in that they can hit from the tightest of tight lies and are useful for pretty much anything... punch shots under trees, and even stuff you wouldn't expect. If you're having a bad day chipping? Roll one on from the rough with your hybrid. Awful with those greenside sand shots? If there's no lip, try rolling it out of there with your hybrid, if the sand conditions allow it (you'll find at most muni's, they will).
