I tend to get rigid and freeze up after addressing the ball, making it difficult to initiate the back swing. Any tips on the first move?

LONG DEEP BREATH - WORKS EVERY TIME, there are many things, but this doesn't effect your swing technically or mechanically

Focus on what your final swing move will be and that will unfreeze you.

Hi,

Try to relax more is an obvious tip but also don't be afraid of the ball and just hit it......try to think more about you're finish and follow thru than you're start, by having a very well defined and sweeping follow thru you will develop a fluid swing, I Hope you do!.

Easiest thing: always move. I can't name a single PGA Tour player that pauses for more than a second or so before starting their swing. They're always moving, even if it's just wiggling their toes to feel a good balance. Usually it's the clubhead or something to keep their arms loose.

Many players use a small forward push, an inch or two towards the target, then start the backswing. Try it. Also, do not linger over the ball. Keep your preshot routine the same and moving.

You know all the prior comments were GREAT advice!

But....I will let you in on the ultimate trick to relax over the ball! BEER!

O.K. but, all kidding aside. For Rec. golf , I find 2 drinks and i am loose!
Very little over thinking and very relaxed.

Any more then 2 beers and.....well....ha! I think we all know what happens then!
