So currently I am playing the Top-Flite Gamer V2 and I have to say that I really like it... it's a great ball especially for the price. However, it's about time for me to buy some new balls and I'm not sure if I want to continue with the Gamers ($19/dz) or switch to the Nike One Tour D. The only reason I'm really considering the switch is that right now they are $22/dz and if it is a significantly better ball than I'll pay the extra $3.

So the question is, if you were in my shoes what would you do?

If I was literally in your shoes, with your set makeup (a somewhat retro/vintage under the radar quality vibe you've got going on - scotty notwithstanding) then I "personally" would go with the Top Flite.

Nothing blows people's minds like finding out that on almost every hole, they've been outdriven, been the first to putt, and the last to tee off, by a guy gaming a $%^@%^ Top Flite. I love it!!!

Nice points... so you know the Scotty is an old one that was sent to the custom shop for me and has my initials on it...

Anyways back to the topic... I may end up going with the Gamers just because if nothing else I've played them before... It's just hard because the the Tour D is suppose to be one of the premium balls and at that price I don't want to pass it up if it really is good. I do like your take on my set up though... quality is exactly what I was going for...

I'd say get the Nikes too though - you can't beat that price for new balls. I hit some Nike balls this year and was impressed. The Callaway tour balls are better (imo) but way more money. I also had some callaway products in the bag at the same time and was worried they might be incompatible. Like storing steel wool and alkaline batteries in the same bag of your backpack. Kaswoosh!!!

I'm a premium 3-4 piece ball snob, I keep going back to pro v1 as i do think it's the best ball. I've been playing the V2 for 3 weeks now, I'm really blown away... I'm in no rush to switch back. I never did like the Nike's...in your case, I'd buy both and rotate...see how they compare. If the price of the Pro v and V2 was the same, I'd clearly play the Pro v; it's just been that consistant for me...

I could also go with mint condition 2007/2008 Pro V1x's at about the same price from GolfBallNut... better option maybe?

your welcome.

Compare a cheap wilson ultra to a pro V1 and see how you shoot. you might shoot lower with the ultra since it spins less and won't go as far left/right. During the summer you probably need the extra spin in your area but now that it's winter the ball will stop up pretty quickly so just save your money and play with cheaper golf balls

You can't go wrong with Pro V, but the Gamer is a real good competitor. I personally would play the Pro V just because of confidence in the ball, but the Gamer is really intriguing me...

For me, it's really winter...so I'm happy to buy the gamer at Golf Town for $15...

your welcome.

The whole point of this thread is that they are pretty much the same price... within a few dollars of each other... so I'm not really saving money going with the Gamers over the Nikes. I have no doubt that my score would be about the same with a cheap Pinnacle compared to a premium ball; but personally I want a bit of feel around and on the green which the mid-level balls like the Gamer give me. Since, as stated before, the Nikes are only a few bucks more and are a "premium" ball I was wondering if others thought it would be worth it to try.

The Gamer is not a mid-level ball, it is a premium ball with a value price point. I've been playing the ball for 3 weeks and can say it gives me as much confidence as a Pro V, Tour-i or B330. It just spins a little less than the Pro V, so the ball backs up a foot instead of 2-3 feet. It spins like a V1x, but is a bit softer feel.

You will absolutely score better with a 3 piece ball, If I were to play a cheap wilson ultra, I would add at least 5 strokes and as many as 10, getting up and down would be really hard with a ball that does not hold the green (unless I'm playing a bump and run game...but why?)...

Ended up pulling the trigger on the V2s.. I like that I know what l'm getting... They were a few bucks less (not a huge deal) and there were packs with a free sleeve.

i played the OG Gamers...nice ball but man was it soft and scuffed easy
cheaper, but i would literally go through 4 a round...at the end of the day, not cheaper

i hear the V2 is MUCH more durable tho

might have to try them out this year.......

I REALLY REALLY liked the Srixon Trispeed this year, but as summer went on, i wanted a spinnier ball
thought about the Trispeed tour's, but ended up trying ang using the TM LDP Black's all summer (small stint w a pro v1x)

Nike Tour One D's on sale now for $29/doz
Srixon Z Star OG and X's are 2 for $60
Gamer V2's are like $19/doz
Srixon Trispeed Tour $29/doz
TM LDP Blacks $34/doz - are harder to find now, MAYBE sportcheck has a few boxes left

i couldn't say which one is which in a blind fold test, but all good contendors for next year's ball
for me, its all about how it feels off the putter (that "click" sound) and low spin off the driver
not too concerned about spin around the green, as i have a pretty steep attack angle and can get a majority of balls to sit (Sara Brown style!! ;) hahah! )

i remember trying the Callaway i(s) i beleive........man they just felt hollow and VERY clicky...too clicky, compared to the pro v1x or the TM LDP Blk

dunno...maybe a buy a sleeve of each to test out putting this winter????

You never really told us why you want to switch to the Tour D. It's a premium distance ball.

... Promises long distance, with soft shots around the green. ...recommended for "low handicappers." Would you get some overall performance benefit from the Tour D that you miss with the Gamer? Would your golfing buddies be more accepting of you with a Tour D ball (I'm not getting on your case here, I know some partners are snooty.) Tell us what performance boost you expect from the Tour D. Or, go out on a day when play is light and do a nine-hole test: Play Gamer and Tour D, alternating first and second tee shots, and see if they differ in performance. Also, does one fit your game better?

Focus, connect and follow through!

The reason that I was considering the Nike was mainly due to the price that I could get it at.... I really like the Gamer (and ultimately that is the reason I ended up buy them again) but for just a few dollars more I was thinking that it could be worth it to try. I really wasn't expecting much difference or a perfomance boost or anything like that... I was just trying to get input from those who had played them to see what they thought.

To everybody that gave me real feedback, thanks.
