White alignment line on irons...

Just bought a new set of irons. My old irons came stock with a white line on the bottom groove of each iron...really got used to that for alignment purposes! Have any of you filled in the bottom groove of your irons...and if so, what's the best paint to use?

I've used Testors model paint to make an older set look new again. Dip a toothpick in it, fill in the groove, then use a cloth to clean the face of any paint that snuck out of the grove.

I second Testors. Cheap, a million colors (go to a hobby or model shop), and easy to use. Toothpicks also work well, but I would add some nail polish or acetone to your set up. A cotton ball dipped in either the nail polish remover or acetone will make clean up a snap.

Fill in the groove and wipe a few times. I prefer paper towel pieces to cotton balls myself. Testors is used by 95% of people who personalize the paint on their Scotty Cameron putters (and other clubs.). I'm thinking about re-painting the graphics on all my irons this winter...

most "players" clubs wont have the alignment line
i honestly didt even know it was there....well...because my irons have never had it
my buddy pointed this out to me on his irons

i guess you learn something new everyday

"Players" irons? Hogwash. I have forged Wison Staff irons and they have a groove/alignment feature. Painting the bottom groove? Go for it if you want. Don't know how long it will last though. Obviously, you don't want to lessen spin by filling in any other grooves of course.

Testors is a soft paint and will wear off easily. I have found that the automotive touch up paint is a much better choice. It is more expensive but it is more durable. You can find it at most auto-parts stores. Around $6-7 a bottle.

just a generalization, as "most" dont have them, but a majority ot GI or SGI irons do

i havent found that testors wears an faster than OEM paint

but on the face of the club, it more than likely will wear

Back in the day I paint filled some iron numbers on the sole. Testors wore out fast, the auto touch up paint held on much better. This is my only experience with the two.

Bump What are the affects of painting grooves? I Regripped all my clubs, cut them down, reshafted one, and am looking to redo the paint fill. If I decide paint on the grooves looks good would it affect spin, and how often would I have to reapply?
