Tomorrow marks tournament # 2 for the year
It is medal play w full hcp allowances again...grrrr.....
BUT I am playing a dude who is a 7.4, so he will get 4 on me - not too stressed though cause is medal play

Played nine today and course wise, its tough right now
they just punched the greens and sanded them, so they are SUPER tough to putt on
but at least everyone will be putting on them, so it should be ok
the wind was HUGE today, 2 clubs for sure

Quick recap of todays round

1. pulled drive slightly left, 5i approach left me 40 yds in - chipped on and 2 putted - PAR
2. wrong club selection, hit to back of green and just off, chipped to 1 foot and tap in - PAR
3. BOMBED drive to 30 yds, pulled chip to left of green and just off, hit 8i to 10 feet and drained 10 footer - PAR phew!
4. hit 3w over water in fwy, chipped to 8 ft, lipped out birdie - PAR
5. wrong club selection again, hit 5i to front of green, 22 paces to the hole, 3 putts later for - BOGEY
6. hit perfect drive cutting the corner, nicked top of trees left me 245 to green, hit 5i to 20 yds, chipped to 8ft, lipped birdie - PAR
7. absoluetly pulled driver into trees, got lucky and in middle of fwy only like 175 yds out (from the tee! haha), hit 4i wind took it left and left me 40 to green, had to hit flop over trees, landed to 5ft, 2 putt - BOGEY
8. hit 5i chunky to front of green, bladed chip over green, chip on and - BOGEY
9. hit another perfect driver, got unlucky and hit top of tree, 5i approach shot just short, chipped and one put for - PAR

38 on a par 35

had some ups and downs and some scrambling, but over all was striking the ball ok
putting was a MAJOR improvement today, from previous days
I sold my Scotty last night to some H/S kid who wanted it bad...$280 and its gone (paid that last year for it!! haha)
So off to golf town, ended up getting fitted for a putter (hour later w wife & kid in truck)
picked up a RIFE Island Series Abaco (heel shafted half blade like PM's)
love this putter and also only paid $179 for it, retailed at $200 - the grooves on the face are the real deal kids - THEY WORK!

didnt hit it on the course till today
considering the shape of the greens and never using it, im happy w 15 putts this am

So, going into tomorrows match i feel good
if i can play the game i did today and drop a few more putts, things will be good and i should shoot mid 70's if the wind stays down, but if i can start maing some putts, I should shoot really well (praying tonight for good putts!! hahah)
I have had a few rounds where i SHOULD have been 2 or 3 under par, but putting killed me - its a struggle, but i can feel it coming

I am sticking to my same "gameplan" as last weekend's tourney, w some slight adjustments
w a lesson, a fitted putter and a confident swing, I feel better than last weekend for sure

Stay tuned for my results....( to anyone other than Miller who actually reads these!! haha!...thanks Sean!)

wow...words really cant describe what happenned today...oh wait, one is coming to me SH*t....yep thats it
I have no idea what I was doing today, but it felt like my first round ever playing this game of "golf"
I feel embarassed about this round, but heres a quick summary of my mistakes today:

*one in the bush on 3 - penalty stroke
*Hole 5 -wowsers, a chili dip, a skull out of the sand, another chili dip on the green and a 3 putt for a...here it comes....... a 7 on a par 3!!!!
*another 3 putt on 8
*topped my driver on 9

Finished 46 on the front

*started out gret on the back, under GIR on 10, 2 putt birdie
*held -1 till 14, not many mistakes on the back, one fat shot and thats it, no 3 putts just a crappy round of putting

Ended w a 4 on the back for a total of 87 strokes

One guy in our group on 10 saw my index was a 4 and said he was excited to watch me play
not sure if he was trying to get me going or actually beaking me when he then called me a 24.......hmmmm......
this is when i proceeded to go -1 for 5 holes

I feel like a hack, like i just started this game
someting happenned over winter, I ended the season on fire
Im sure i only had 3 rounds last year above 80m out of 40+ rounds
so far, im strugling to just break 80 dudes

BUT you know what....its whatever

I was really frusterated after my round
even up to 10 minutes ago, I was choked
but, im not now for these reasons:

1. its just a game
2. i dont make or try to make a living at it
3. i know the potential i have (just need to find it in there)
4. i can spank anyone of my buddies on any given day
5. its just a game

so tomorrow is round 2
no idea what time i tee off, or who i play, but im just gonna go out there and do my thing
if i play well, i play well - if i dont, i dont
it IS ONLY May 15...I have NEVER played this many round before may long weekend in my life

i am sure things will turn around sooner or later
i am due for a low round here sooner or later....hahahha!!!

anyways........im currently having a beer, a chunk of beef jerkey and watching the Valero Open

will report back tomorrow...........thanks for listening to me vent a little

enis out
"My swing is homemade - but I have perfect flaws!" - Me

couple highlights to add, which i think are ok:

I hit 8/13 fwy's (great for me)
I hit 9/18 GIR's

putting, putting, putting, putting, putting..............how do get to a single index you ask?? PUTTING!!!!!!!

we all have our bad days.
Can't be perfect all the time.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Damn, man... I hate those days. You'll rebound. I've run in to quite a few guys who finished last year real strong and they're struggling REAL bad this season so far. One of the guys was playing some of the best golf of his life in September and early October. This season, he's struggling to break 100 and I'm not sure if he's even competed in any of the tournaments so far this season with the exception of ONE where he tied for 10th.

Way to unwind tonight and get back at it tomorrow! Good luck!

thanks guys

yep, was a tough day to say the least
it didnt even feel like me today - I am sure if was painfull to watch too

you know i used to NEVER hit balls before a round, just chip and putt
I have hit balls before both tournaments and made bad scores
tomorrow i am skipping the range, show up a little later and just chip and putt before
maybe this will help in getting burned out swinging??

i dunno....searching at this point

have a good night all and I will report back day 2 tomorrow
"My swing is homemade - but I have perfect flaws!" - Me

well today was a much better round
i struck the ball as good as i ever have - no chili dips, bladed wedges, etc....
won my match by 8 (after full allowances), but dude had a bad day

i finished w a 79
man i need to putt......i hit 8 GIR today and only made 2 birdies all day
i swear if i could make that stupid little white ball fall in the hole putting, i would be a rockstar!! hahah!!

ah well......better day over all

I found the holy grail of balls as well
Srixon Trispeed balls are the shiz!!!!! man are they good and affordable

I tried the 2010 models and these are the real deal folks
they hop and stop no problem and WAAAAY less driver spin than a Pro V of any sort
to add they feel amazing off any clubs, driver to putter

100% these will be my new balls this year
great job Srixon!

anyways......im done w tourneys till start of June
i think i will be spending my time on the short game fore the next few weeks
as well going to play a different course next weekend, to change things up a bit

stay tuned for my next installment.......

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
