So... this is going to be my 7th match in the club... and the 3rd which will be a one on one matchup for singles AND doubles. As it stands now, I still don't have a doubles partner. Not a big deal because I was never really focused on doubles, but... seeing as how I'm in the thick of things... it would be nice to be able to compete. Alas, if I don't find a partner by the next outing... my doubles season is over.

This week we travel to the middle/southern portion of the state and play another course I've yet to see. Based on the yardage (just over 6500 yards) and the fact that a lot of the website mentions environmental areas... I'm expecting to have a tough round. I haven't played since the day after the last club round, so... I'm not really sure how I'll handle the course. I HAVE been to the range a few times and I've seemingly had a few swing thoughts that have been working for me, so I'm hoping that carries over. There have been a few guys in the club who've mentioned that the course really isn't that tough and that typically, some of the lowest net scores of the year come at this course.... so I've got that going for me.

My goal is to keep my driver in play. My irons haven't really deviated this season. I know that it's a 40/60 proposition with the hybrids and my 5 iron... it's about 50/50 on my 6 iron and 7 iron... and maybe 75/25 with my 8 iron and 9 iron. I'm much more confident... about 90/10 with my wedges. So... if I can keep the ball in play off the tee... I feel like I should be able to score fairly well. I'll need to post a low score to win... so I have no expectations as far as that's concerned, but... I'd still like to post another Top Ten finish.

My opponent is listed as a 6.8 handicap... but he's been posting some pretty high numbers recently (84, 87, 89) so I feel like I've got the upper hand in our matches. Considering that the only undefeated player left has a very tough matchup this week... I'm kind of digging in for the win in my match. I've got this week and then next week... and then I will miss the Week 9 match which guarantees a loss (unless it gets rained out). Being a half-game behind the leader (5-0-1 vs 5-1-0)... I'd like to keep at his feet... and a loss by him would go a long way with that loss looming for me in a few weeks.

I will be receiving 13 strokes in our matches against my opponent and I've got a course handicap of 21 so... a decent gross score (below 90) should get me in to the Top Ten for the week.

Week 7 Predictions:

Gross Score = 92
Net Score = 71
Final Position (Net) = Outside Top Ten
Match Result (Singles - Match Play) = Win 3 & 2
Match Result (Doubles - Team Net Stroke Total Match Play) = Win 3 & 2

It's another big week. I'm sitting 4th in Ryder Cup points with 220 through 6 events and I'm in the 6th position in Net Scoring with an average of 72.7 right now. I'd like to pick up some more points because it's going to be tougher and tougher to do so as guys start to really warm up and play better. I truthfully feel that I've already played my best golf and it's a matter now of fighting to hang on. Seeing as how it's not even halfway through the season... just small amounts of points will help to cling to a Ryder Cup spot.

I'll be back tomorrow night or Monday morning to recap.

'Til then...

    • I entirely agree with everything you said, but would just note that normal human beings are a lot closer to degenerate and avaricious scum than many of us might be comfortable admitting/might realize.
    • That is a bit hyperbolic, I think. Most despicable is a bit much.  Again, a bit over the top here.  Most athletes are probably closer to being normal human beings than degenerates and avaricious scum.  Just sounds like you want to generalize all athletes because it is easy to do so. Hey, generalizing a subset of a population is entirely a human thing to do.
    • This is so awesome; my two biggest lifetime hero and the biggest superstars of the past 35 years in golf……both turned out to be the two of the most despicable human beings in professional sports… Between this and everyone whoring themselves out for Saudi Arabia… Used to love golf because I thought they were smarter, better people than the other sports. Turns out a huge percentage of them are total degenerates and avaricious scum like every other sport!
