Got out for a quick 9 on the back of my home course with a neighbor. Goal was to help him get around, he's new to the game, and try to work on my short irons. Also, pro shop had a Superfast TP so I grabbed it to demo for the round.

First hole, hit a pretty good drive that set me up well, hit an 8iron a little short of the hole and got up and down. Figured that was a good omen and decided to play the nine straight up with no extra balls or whatnot. Driver worked well but the 46" length is definitely too long, I only hit one ball on the screws all day.

Irons were sharp, hit 5 greens which is high for me, and misses were just misjudged club that came up a bit short. Finally feeling comfortable with longer backswing. Short game was pretty good, got up and down when the shot wasn't too tough, and didn't make any major mistakes with tough lies or shortsided pins. Putting was solid, had 16putts. Distance control was much better leaving easy tap ins.

So, came to #18 just two over, a great round for me. Didn't know the exact score but knew it was pretty good. Hole is a short slight dogleg right from elevated tee, with water WAY right. My "miss" is a fade, so I usually just start it left and let the fade work, good drives will have me inside 100yds. Decided to try to hammer one to get it to 80yds or so and give a birdie opportunity...and as I should have known, turned into a full blown slice and put it in the water. Tough shot from where I had to drop, ended with a double bogey and a 39. Very solid score for me, but disappointing.

Lesson learned, even if the hole sets up for a miss, swinging hard is just a dumb move.

    • I entirely agree with everything you said, but would just note that normal human beings are a lot closer to degenerate and avaricious scum than many of us might be comfortable admitting/might realize.
    • That is a bit hyperbolic, I think. Most despicable is a bit much.  Again, a bit over the top here.  Most athletes are probably closer to being normal human beings than degenerates and avaricious scum.  Just sounds like you want to generalize all athletes because it is easy to do so. Hey, generalizing a subset of a population is entirely a human thing to do.
    • This is so awesome; my two biggest lifetime hero and the biggest superstars of the past 35 years in golf……both turned out to be the two of the most despicable human beings in professional sports… Between this and everyone whoring themselves out for Saudi Arabia… Used to love golf because I thought they were smarter, better people than the other sports. Turns out a huge percentage of them are total degenerates and avaricious scum like every other sport!
