Round 6/13

Played 18 today at Country Club of Petersburg. Had heard that this course had the nicest greens in the area and it didn't disappoint, very true rolls and plenty challenging. We didn't have a chance to warm up so it took a bit to get the kinks worked out.

Hit the driver very well all day. We played the whites and many holes position the white tee where there is a large tree obstructing the right/left side of the fairway directly in front of the tee, basically requiring a very accurate tee shot to slip past the tree and still hold the fairway. I was able to buzz these trees all day and was very happy with my tempo and distance. Also learned to hit the ball high, and was able to cut some corners on doglegs that really helped get into scoring position.

Irons were crap all day, just no distance. I've hit a lot of balls this week and just never loosened up, so I kept falling short after good tee shots. Had some issues getting up and down from odd positions, so I didn't score very well.

Greens were terrific, much faster and more undulating then my home course. Took a while for me to "reconfigure" my putting to deal with the speed, but after it came around I made some decent putts. Pins were brutal all day, so I faced tough shots around the green with a lot of shortsided pins, and cups set on knobs around the green which made for tough short putts. Just one of those days when I didn't play bad, but scoring was tough. Basically, I need to play these tougher courses to sharpen my game.

Blew up on one par5 after a pulled tee shot and took an 8, should have been an easy par hole. Shot 90 which was disappointing, but eliminate the blowup and it would have been a decent round. Looking forward to playing again.
