When I swing a wedge it's almost like I'm trying to drive the ball into the ground...but the result is a high launch with super spin. Try that 54* with your hands just a bit ahead of the ball through impact swinging DOWN and thru it...you'll luve it!

I'm not a fan of telling people to hit "down" on the ball. Too many people who worry about hitting "down" on the ball get into poor habits. If you wanted to hit "down" on the ball the most that doesn't guarantee at all that your head would remain stable or several other things.

What the Tour Striker does help with is keeping your left wrist flat, which because your left shoulder should be ahead of the ball at impact, leads to forward shaft lean. Regardless of what they say, you don't use the Tour Striker effectively by trying to hit "down" on the ball - you use it effectively by having your hands forward. "Down" is simply a side effect, not the end goal. The end goal is to get your hands forward with a flat left wrist.

That last sentence is worth repeating. I dropped almost ten strokes this past year and this is largely why. Bobby Clampett's book "The Impact Zone" was a life saver in teaching me this. Wish I had that book when I started learning the game.

The end goal is to get your hands forward with a flat left wrist.

Might be a different story for you to be getting 64 but for the masses I think going past a 58 is not really recommended. Would've suggested a 51-52 wedge might work out real nice for you but since you already stated that you didn't like it.

When I played the other day I found that I was actually in need of a gap wedge. It could have been the conditions that day but I was finding that on a few occasions I was coming within 100-120 yds(my estimation not actual) of the green and was not able to reach the green with my 54* wedge and was going over with my PW(I played the same lie multiple times and had the same results was not reaching the green with the 54* and over with PW. I looked into a pre owned 50* but ultimately did not pull the trigger. Wanted to hear from people who would know.

I just started using my AP2 gap wedge this year. I never used one before so I always carried a 54 wedge. Now I'm using the 54 and 58 and dropped my 60. So it's every 4 degree for me which is a big help. I don't have to smoke my 54 in 100-110 shots and I don't have to choke down on PW.. Gap wedge is a must have for me.. I carry a driver, 3 wood and 3 rescue. I dropped my 3 iron and carry 3 wedges. 14 total clubs and I'm very happy with my distance gaps right now.. I don't hit my 3 wood on par 5's from fairway but my rescue gets me close. With the extra wedge I feel very confident laying up on any hole.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
