Because professional golf is crazy hard. I think that, more than anything, is what people have been trying to tell you. Not to discourage you necessarily, but to let you know that it's really hard to be even close to a pro golfer. If you think you can do it, fine, don't let us stomp all over your fun, but don't give up everything to try pro golf just because you can shoot in the low 80's after a few months.

I knew it was crazy hard but when I look at the leaderboard you can make the cut with 69-70 on 72course.

Because 69-70 makes the cut on a course that is tricked out for the pros... when pros play courses that are at our level (slower greens, tees not as far back, etc.) they go crazy low.  The course that they play on tour are very hard...

And there is also a HUGE difference between going out and just playing golf, even on a course tricked for the pros, and playing tournament golf for a living.    If you want a better perspective on this, go to a tournament live and follow some of the back marker players.   These are guys who are still crazy good and would simply embarrass an outstanding scratch golf every hole, yet in a tournament under the pressure of making a living and struggling to keep a Tour card they can look almost normal.    Once at Riviera I watched a lesser known player come over to the ropes after missing a 4 footer to save par, and he crouched down and was literally shaking from the nerves.

I don't recall the exact quote, but I think it was Hogan who made the comment that there was golf, and then there is tournament golf, and the two are completely different games.     And he wasn't talking about your club championship tournament, he was talking about playing on Tour for a living.

Yup... it takes a lot more than talent to make it... there is no doubt abut that.  To the OP, seems like you have a good amount of talent if you are in the low 80s after just a few months... I've been playing since high school and have never got there, so congrats on that.  Maybe you'll have the nerves to play pro golf as well, only one way to know that for sure.  If you eventually get your scores down low enough to try then I wish you all the luck in the world.
