Still looking for a set of irons...ive read many reviews in magazines and web pages and many poeple comment that the nike slingshot oss irons are among the best game improvement clubs for mid-high handicappers. Anybody use them or have tried them? Im thinking of getting them used on internet. Thanks

Manu, my friend has the OSS and they are good clubs for the weekend hacker, meaning somebody that plays for fun now and then. The OSS feel like woods when I hit, plenty of distance but less feedback.

Iv'e been in your spot before, researching to death but you can't go wrong with the Taylormade OS2's or something similar.

Better to just go and demo different ones in an open environment, not a closed in shop.

The Nike Slingshot irons are not worth the money. I have tried them and they have no feedbacka nd just look like a spade on a stick. For a little more money you could buy the G5 irons that are top quality.

The only reason the Nike OSS are meant to be any good is because of the name. Someone has to pay Tiger's Sponsorship fees.

This is only my opinion and I am a 12 handicap so for high handicappers they may be good but I do not personally recommend them to anybody.
Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

thanks popey...I placed a bid for under 190$ so if I get them and dont like them I can sell them to a store and probably get my money back...dont ya think? Anyways I had herd about the lack of feedback from the club and dont like that...however...do you think you felt that because you are a good player and are used to more playable irons??? What do you think about the cobras 3400 I X/H for game improvement? I take not of your rac os suggestion. I almost bought them 2 weeks ago!!! Are the slingshots really that chunky and feel like woods??? I know they are very forgiving thats why I felt they were a good choice at first...but lack of feedback is bad if you wanna improve right?

Exactly...........................Be careful when you buy on ebay then sell to a shop. They will give you pennies to the dollar, another words, you won't get that much on a trade-in. Best to buy from a shop, you would get close to full credit on playability promotions.

well my friend, that is because those irons werent designed for someone your handicap.. they were designed for someone who has trouble getting the ball and needing all the forgiveness they can get..

by the way the club champ at Wildenrath GC here in Germany just won using those irons..

I did a review of the clubs on a different forum. Actually I'm pretty sure when I was researching nike OSS slingshots, I saw a review on the Sandtrap as well.

Briefly, let me tell you... I knew I was looking for 'game improvement' clubs for a few weeks and I had a game plan.

I tried out Callaway's (BB's, Fusions,), Taylormade XDs and CGBs, Mizuno MX-17/19's, and a few others I can't even remember.

What I did was take a few of each brand every day and hit them with a launch monitor. I knew a sale was coming up at my local store so I made a short list. Eventually I hit every set I mentioned at least twice.

At the top of my 'short list' was Nike Slingshot OSS's. Some people whine about the (thick top) look, but really, after owning them a month, I honestly don't even notice it anymore.

Hitting wise, no other club I tried gave me the consistency, and narrow shot dispersion (actually that was always a 'best' statistic for my testing with Nike's). I finally reached a point of exhaustion and just got sick of trying clubs... the Nike's were my best choice.

Don't listen to negative 'Tiger' crap, or anything that has nothing to do with golf. Get what YOU want. People rag on Adams clubs, claiming they are for 'old' men, but that was another brand I heavily considered. (forgot to mention that).

"feel" I found to be a very specific thing. Can I shape the ball? Of course not. that's not what these do. They do go long and straight though. You can control trajectory, but they do want to hit straight. As far as feedback, I tend to have found different results than some people. I clean my clubs every use at the range and use tape sometimes. (impact tape). Truthfully, if I swing and have a slight misshit, I can tell right away. I pick up the club, examine the head, and it's confirmed. Conversely, a solid sweet spot connection feels like butter, whereas a hozel hit will sting... So if you're looking for more feel than that, then yea, consider something else.

That's the short version of my experiences. I of course bought them and have been really impressed. It's the first set of irons I've bought in a long time that I do not have _any_ second thoughts about a month after owning them.

In the end, I suggest you don't take my advice. Just about every one of the top club manufacturers have an awesome set of GI clubs. HIT them. Trust me, nothing beats your own experiences and some data on a lanuch monitor (if available). You'll see your launch, length, dispersion, spin, club head speed and other important data.

My final piece of advice on this is -get fitted-. I thought I was happy with these.. took them home for a week and came back for fitting (they were pretty busy so I had to comeback) and after a lie adjustment, I hit them a little more centered where the club sole hits the ground. I had the grips changed a bit too. Have fun. ;)

If I were you I wouldn't bother with the nike sling shots because me and some other people and pro's I know have found them to be very chunky to hit and look at. If you're looking for game improvement irons regardless the price i would recommend the mx-900's or taylormade os' but if you want an inexpensive set I would recommend Tommy Armour or Mizuno mx-23

I'm a 7 handicap and love my Nike CPR irons. Yes, they may look a little different, but I have worked VERY hard on slowing my swing down and have dropped my handicap from a 16 to a 7 in only 4 months. I give a lot of credit to the CPR irons!

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
