Ever play with a new golfer or someone with a 24 handicap. You go ito the pub after around and you talk 80 something and they don,t evn feel they can get in the conversation. Give them a score card that reflects the handicap they play to. A par 5 for you but a 7 or 8 for them. Set up the card that way. Par for them would be 82 92 wat works sothey  have some to measure there games against.  SOO what do you think?

I think that is exactly how the system works today. At least all cards I've played with got a column where the player can type in his handicap for each hole. If his course handicap is 36, he can use 2 shots extra on each hole, which makes a par 3 par 5, par 4 par 6 and par 5 par 7. If it's 28, shots are dealt out from the index regulation.

Zeph it is in a way, but I play at a private and a public course  what will save the game is all the great friends that I play with at the public course and no one is giving them there cards marked up or better most don't even understand the handicap system. New golfers look at the card and  th ere score  say screw this! the game is too dam hard for me to compete. That is all they hear  from the equipment co. You must score well or you suck. Only seasoned old timers or veterans relax and except the scores they come in with. A picture is worth a thousand words.

New golfers aren't as good as experienced golfers, so why would they compare scores? What would a post-round conversation sound like with the dumbed down cards? Guy taking a 4 on #1: "Too bad that birdie putt lipped out". The 36 handicapper who takes a 5: "tough luck there, I got my birdie!!". That sounds lame. Also, your homonym checker is turned off.

We don't get marked cards, we fill it in ourselves. If you teach a beginner to do this himself, he can keep track. If you put a little effort into it, it shouldn't take too long to learn how the system works and how to put those numbers down. I didn't care all that much about scoring when I was a higher handicap, I was just looking to get better. It's a bit easier for us since we normally play with Stableford scoring where a high handicapper can more easily compare points with lower handicaps. In the end, if you play net shots a lower handicap will usually play better. Teaching beginners something as simple as calculating the net score from the gross score is a good start and makes comparing results easier.

I'm sorry but I don't think I appreciate being called a "little guy". I can talk over a round with anyone no matter how shitty I play and how great you play. Don't belittle me or anyone else just because i don't score as well as you

This is too much to pass up.  Are you apologizing for Kelsey Grammer?  It's "grammar."

And I agree with a prior poster, high scores don't make you "the little guy."  Most golfers never sniff 90, let alone a sub 80 or par round.  I've played with plenty of guys who came nowhere close to breaking 100 and had a great time.

Careful there with the "little guy" comment.  At an 11handicap, if you played with many groups, YOU would be the little guy. By far.
